An Israeli minister has threatened genocide in Lebanon, but where is the outcry? by Asa Winstanley on Middle East Monitor

“Bennett’s belligerence in openly threatening genocidal war crimes against Lebanon and its people, is nothing new for Israel, even if it did ratchet-up the rhetoric.
In 2008, Israel’s then head of the Northern Command, Gadi Eizenkot — he is now chief of staff — proclaimed the “Dahya Doctrine” in which entire villages were threatened with destruction. “In every village from which Israel is fired on… We will apply disproportionate force on it and cause great damage and destruction there. From our standpoint, these are not civilian villages, they are military bases… This is not a recommendation. This is a plan. And it has been approved.”
… Moreover, in threatening to send Lebanon “back to the Middle Ages” the genocidal intent is clear. It is reminiscent of previous Israeli threats to conduct war against the entire Palestinian civilian population, including women and children…
Despite its alleged liberal credentials, Ha’aretz seems to have little problem with Bennett’s genocidal threats. Its headline writers appear to encourage him by summarising his interview with his promise to “Hit Civilians Where It Hurts”

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Israel committed genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip during its 2014 offensive, Mayor of the Hungarian Municipality of Erpatak, Mihaly Zoltan Orosz, said on Monday.

… The Hungarian Public Prosecution filed a complaint against Orosz, accusing him of “inciting hatred and hostility” after organising a demonstration against the Israeli offensive on Gaza in 2014. Speaking during the hearing, Orosz said that he would not rescind his remarks about the Israeli genocide. The Judge adjourned the hearing to 12 June.

“If you’re offended by it [terms of Apartheid or Genocide] then don’t do it” Miko Peled on Jewish Voice for Peace

People say that also [they] are offended when Israel’s actions are described as genocide, but if you look at the United Nations’ definition of the crime of genocide, and you compare it to Israeli authorities and policies over the last 7 decades, it reads almost identical… So not to call it genocide is offensive.

Outrage over Scottish law chief meeting with Israeli embassy by Yvonne Ridley

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

A secret document has emerged revealing how Israeli embassy officials in Britain sought a meeting with Scotland’s most senior legal official to discuss the Scottish Jewish community. Released under the Freedom of Information Act, the communication between the Lord Advocate and the embassy suggested a meeting which would enable the Apartheid State to discuss “Jewish relationships in Scotland” and the “Israeli and Scottish prosecutorial systems”.

… In the meantime, the SPSC issued a statement pledging to continue to “campaign peacefully for boycott against the genocidal State of Israel, a right that the Westminster Government has said openly it will try to revoke, building on previous efforts by one time Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The trials of SPSC members past, ongoing and future are our contribution to the worldwide campaign for BDS and the lavishly financed worldwide campaign against BDS being waged by the Israeli government with, possibly, support from the Lord Advocate on behalf of the Scottish Government.”

Time to end the ‘hasbara’: Palestinian media and the search for a common story by Ramzy Baroud

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Aside from finding their common story, Palestinian journalists need to reach out to the wider world, not only to their traditional circle of dedicated friends and supporters, but to mainstream society. If people truly appreciate the truth, especially from a humanist perspective, they cannot possibly support genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Europeans: Israel committing genocide against Palestinians by Middle East Monitor

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

“More than 40 per cent of Europeans believe that Israel carries out genocide against Palestinians, Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett said a recent report showed. During the Sunday meeting of the Israeli government, Bennett blamed Europe for the result of the report, saying that Europe is becoming anti-Semitic and the EU leaders are not taking action to stop this… The report pointed out that the BDS movement had been very successful in Europe and other parts of the world despite Israeli efforts to tackle it.”

UN report highlights Palestinian needs by Ramona Wadi

Priority issues that have contributed to humanitarian concerns include access restrictions, military operations and settler violence, followed by incursions, demolitions, planning restrictions and poverty. Essentially, the report can be viewed as an unfortunate affirmation of increasing hardships that is cleverly diverted away from the political issues. The depravity however, lies in the selective notions of illusory accountability and responsibility. Given the lack of legal enforcement, as well as Israel’s brand of impunity that has been endorsed at an international level, the report will most likely serve as a tool to heighten awareness and, in return, bolster Israel’s macabre deceit. For, according to UN predictability, a calculated form of slow extermination will not constitute genocide and hence, needs, dependency and deprivation will be assessed separately from the wider issue of colonial violence.

Clinton emails reveal power of civil society direct action by Yvonne Ridley

Please make a donation at our Indiegogo fundraising campaign.

Without realising that it was taking on the Goliath of the American political system, the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign set out a decade ago to stop Israeli government-backed artistes from performing in their capital city at one of the world’s best known festivals… SPSC learned this week just how powerful its campaigns proved to be when an article in The Scotsman newspaper revealed how Hillary Clinton tried to exert pressure on film festival organisers to accept financial backing from Israel… “We are amazed by the news because Clinton’s emails were obviously never intended to see the light of day,” commented Mick Napier. “Every email proves that we can change things although until now it was kept secret just how successful our actions were. We had no idea this was going on behind the scenes.”

The veteran activist gave credit to the Scottish government for resisting this sort of pressure. “We can now say that this is an Edinburgh anti-apartheid, clean air act; in other words, the festivals are an Israeli-state-sponsored-free zone.” When Edinburgh has the Palestinian equivalent of Glasgow’s Nelson Mandela Place, he suggested, then we will be able to say that the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign played its part in the struggle against Israeli Apartheid and genocide.
