If there were any remaining doubts about Peretz’ odious ideology, he dispelled them this week when his ministry co-sponsored a ceremony honoring another arch-racist Israeli rabbi, Yitzchak Ginsburgh… the rabbi who published “The King’s Torah,” a religious manual that grants Jews the license to kill any non-Jew that they fear may one day threaten them, even babies. Casual observers of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are unlikely to have noticed this last news item, seeing as it did not receive even a thousandth of the press coverage given to Peretz professing, and then backtracking, on his homophobia.
… In 2016, when he was the Chief Rabbi of the Israeli Army, Peretz bestowed his prestige upon the author of “The King’s Torah,” Yitzhak Shapira, joyously dancing with him at his daughter’s wedding.
Idolising assassins and loathing leftists, inverting the Holocaust and justifying genocide: these are the ideas that Israel’s national religious camp imparts to its students, the ideas that they wish to instill in all Jewish youth, in Israel and abroad.
For over a decade, Netanyahu has presided over this insidious process. But now with Rafi Peretz as education minister, we can expect it to occur even quicker.

Linn da Quebrada, a prominent voice of marginalized Black and poor LGBT people in Brazil, was expected to take part in the Festival’s Queer Party on June 6. She said:
Knowing that in Israel there are also people who suffer from oppression over their bodies and desires, I decided to cancel my participation, joining the cultural boycott that has grown in the last few months around the world, as a form of protest against Israel and its genocidal policies over Palestinians.
In coordination with Quebrada’s cancellation, Brazilian directors Claudia Priscilla and Kiko Goifman announced they are withdrawing their documentary “Bixa Travesty” from TLVFest. The film, which won the Teddy Award for best documentary at the 2018 Berlin International Film Festival, is an intimate biographical portrayal of the life of Linn da Quebrada.
We decided to BOYCOTT TLVFest due to our profound disagreement with Israel’s genocidal policies. We cancelled the participation of the film “Bixa Travesty”. ENOUGH MASSACRES. Respect for the Palestinian people

“Pinkwashing” is a public-relations strategy used to portray Israel as the only place in the Middle East that is friendly to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer people. It relies on a broad-brushed slander of the entire Arab and Muslim world, which is presented as “backward.” It is further based on the egregious lie that the Israeli settler state treats LGBTQ Palestinians as equal to LGBTQ Israelis.
… Another essential component of pro-Israel propaganda is the conflation of Judaism and Jewish identity with the settler state of Israel, a lie which anti-Zionist Jewish organizations, like Jewish Voice for Peace and the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network, have rejected. This conflation allows Zionists to smear anyone who criticizes Israel as “anti-Semitic,” providing a cover for Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people, and erasing the voices and work of Jews worldwide who reject Zionism.

We rise in solidarity with Palestinian liberation, including the call for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions!
The Chicago Pride Parade has a long history of allowing organizations that engage in pinkwashing–the promotion of Israel’s supposed positive record on LGBTQ rights as a means to distract from their brutal crimes against Palestine–to participate in the Parade. The presence of groups like A Wider Bridge, Stand With Us, and the Israeli Consulate General dishonors the legacy of the trans women of color who galvanized our movement. As an explicitly anti-Zionist collective leading an explicitly anti-Zionist coalition which includes Jewish, Muslim and Palestinian organizers, we reject any celebration of the illegal Israeli state in the Chicago Pride Parade. Trans and queer people will not be used as propaganda for a genocidal, settler-colonial state, in an attempt to spread racist and Islamophobic tropes about Palestinian culture. Pinkwashing, Zionism, settler colonialism, and genocide have no place in queer struggle. As a coalition, we proudly join the calls to free Palestine!

The whole “bi theme” of the pride parade is little but a PR trick, having no effect over actual community policy, budgeting or acknowledgement of our actual issues.
Instead, its main function is to present a marketable image of Israel and Tel Aviv as the “gay capital” of the Middle East, draw in white gay tourists from “the West”, and draw attention away from the genocide, occupation and apartheid taking place here every day.
Needless to say, this does nothing for bi Palestinians…
