The fact is, Zionism is a distinct, ethno-nationalist political ideology that many Jews of all kinds—from Orthodox Jews to secular socialist Jews—have opposed since its inception. As Jewish students, it is deeply painful to see our Judaism, an incredibly meaningful part of our identities, be weaponized to fuel a violent, settler-colonial project that has resulted in the displacement, subjugation, and genocide of millions of Palestinians. Conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism does not protect Jews.

Israel Admits its Guilt (and Other Arguments) by Jim Miles

There are two solutions left.  First is the status quo, a slow genocide and ethnic removal of the Palestinian people, preferably to surrounding Arab states (Saudi Arabia, a US-Israeli ally would certainly not welcome them), or less preferably to small islets of apartheid.  The whole process could be sped up by a regional war, say with Iran, under cover of which Israel could attempt to expel masses of Palestinians.

The second solution is what many have demanded of Canada (remember, no double standards):  justice and restoration – of rights, of property, of health and education, of infrastructure, of legal equality as well as full political participation in the governance of the country. Simple solution, but entirely against the beliefs of the current Israeli system.

Why is an NDP MP Joining a Task Force Seeking to Force Twitter, Facebook to Apply Anti-Palestine Solidarity IHRA Definition? by Aidan Jonah

New Democratic Party member of parliament Randall Garrison recently joined an unofficial task force which is lobbying Facebook and Twitter to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which considers any criticism of Israel or solidarity with Palestine anti-semitic. The NDP is Canada’s social-democratic political party.

… Garrison perplexingly claims that he “opposes Israeli annexation of Palestinian land and “remain[s] committed to getting Canada to work toward a two state solution where both sides can live in peace & security.” Remarkably, Garrison equates genocide against the Palestinian people to minor acts of resistance by Palestinians.

Bueckert called out Garrison for this false equivalence, stating that “if you won’t support Canada taking concrete action to stop Israeli annexation, you don’t really oppose it.”

This campaign’s goal is to provide immunity for Israel’s actions while criminalizing all those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

American Jews are US citizens with full rights and obligations, while enjoying freedom to practise Judaism as a religion similar to all other religious groups. Defining Israel as a Jewish instead of a Zionist project and Judaism as a race or nationality immediately raises profoundly problematic issues of dual loyalty, and exposes American Jews to criticism, manipulation and potential abuse due to Israel’s reactionary agenda of apartheid and genocide of Palestinians.
