Anti-Semitism and Labour: Muzzling free speech silences rightful criticism of Israel by Ahmad Tibi

It gives me no pleasure to write this, but it must be clearly stated for the record: of late, top Israeli political and religious leaders have even incited genocide against the Palestinian people. Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef ruled in March that non-Jewish people, including Palestinians, have no right to live in the country.

… Most worrisome, this racist rhetoric is increasingly influencing the Israeli public, shifting it further and further to the far right. What human rights horrors could this lead to, if left unchecked?

“Death to the Arabs” rally draws thousands in Tel Aviv by Ali Abunimah

We usually only post articles that explicitly contain the word “genocide” in them, as we try to provide analysis rather than news items. However we find this particular coverage of yesterday’s events to strongly imply the crime of incitement to genocide on a mass scale, from the Prime Minister, to the courts, to celebrities, to the Israeli public at large. We view this event, and political developments in Israel around this particular execution of Abd al-Fattah Yusri al-Sharif as a decisive moment in the history of the state of  Israel’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people:

In Tel Aviv’s Yitzhak Rabin Square on Tuesday evening, thousands of Israelis rallied in support of Elor Azarya, the soldier filmed executing a gravely wounded Palestinian last month. Rally-goers shouted anti-Arab slogans and attacked persons perceived as being leftists or journalists. Hours earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a call for leniency for the soldier… independent reporter, Dan Cohen, tweeted that many in the crowd chanted “Death to Arabs,” a frequently heard rallying cry at anti-Palestinian demonstrations… Ahmed Tibi, a Palestinian lawmaker in Israel’s parliament, posted an image of a sign [in English] displayed at the rally reading “Kill them all.”.. The rally was organized by Sharon Gal, an Israeli journalist and former lawmaker, and was addressed by Azarya’s parents. Several Israeli pop icons were also scheduled to entertain the rally-goers, including singers Moshik Afia, Maor Edri and Amos Elgali, as well as rapper Subliminal, the Israeli website Ynet reported… Israel at first announced Azarya would be charged with murder, but following a surge of public support, the charges were downgraded to manslaughter.
