Yale College Council adopts statement of condemnation against Israel by The Forward

The Yale College Council, the university’s undergraduate student government, voted on Sunday to adopt a statement of condemnation against Israel. Originally authored by a student group called Yalies 4 Palestine, the statement denounces the “injustice, genocide, and ethnic cleansing occuring in Palestine.”

All versions of Zionism, including The Forward’s liberal sort, lead to the same reactionary end of unbridled expansionism and continued settler colonial genocide of Palestinian people.

…in the words of Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, “there are no innocents in Gaza.” Per Lieberman, everyone in Gaza must have encountered a Hamas member for once in their life; in the streets, the shops or the mosques. That alone makes the entire population liable for attempted genocide.

Selective Outrage And The Damnable Jewish Silence On Gaza by Tom Pessah

One of the authors of the platform related the use of the word to the history of black activism in the U.S., such as the group entitled “We Charge Genocide” which opposes police violence in Chicago. The Jews of Color Caucus of JVP embraced the platform and recognized the multiple meanings of the word “genocide”. But apart from them, the reaction of Jewish American organizations was overwhelmingly negative.

… A year since the controversy, where is the outrage? Is the word “genocide” worse than the actual death of babies and adult patients from completely preventable causes? When will the same Jewish American organizations raise the alarm about Israel’s responsibility for the lethal conditions in Gaza? And how many will die by then?
