In 1948, Zionists proclaimed the settler-colonial state of Israel which too, as in the case of the Union of SA, received de jure recognition despite the fact that it was created as a result of the dispossession and mass expulsion of the indigenous population. However, Israel’s brutal occupation of the West Bank, its merciless siege of Gaza, its continued theft of Palestinian land and water resources, its settlement construction, its large-scale detention and imprisonment of Palestinians, and its practice of “incremental genocide” (a term used by a Jewish and non-Zionist academic, Ilan Pappe), continue to erode support for Israel and thus its legitimacy.

… it sends out a clear message that the Zionist lobby and its sympathisers cannot use members of the judiciary to further its global propaganda campaign to justify and normalise its genocide, epistemicide, ethnic cleansing and colonisation of Palestine.

Young Hearts for Palestine member Zaahidah Meyer said Palestine had stood with SA during apartheid and now all South Africans should stand with Palestine.
“We felt we had to do something because so many countries are making diplomatic deals with Israel and sort of ignoring the genocide that is imposed on Palestine and how people are being killed there every day, being killed for their land, something that can resonate with many South Africans.”

Those who believe that the UAE Israel pact will advance peace in the middle east live in a fool’s paradise. Israel has used the pacts it signed with Egypt in 1979 and with Jordan in 1994 to legitimise its occupation and has continued expansion of illegal settlements unabated.
A legitimate peace can only come from full recognition of the Palestinians’ fundamental human rights, restoration of justice and political rights, holding Apartheid Israel accountable for the continued genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, release of all political prisoners, right of return of all Palestinians in the diaspora, and return of all occupied territory to its rightful owners.

[T]he Apartheid Israeli state has demonstrated its gross violation of international law and made a mockery of United Nations Resolutions without any consequences. On the contrary it continues to act with impunity and continues to commit acts that constitute a crime against humanity, ethnic cleansing and genocide against the Palestinians.
In the face of the above we continue to advance our principled call to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) is appalled by the continued plan of Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, to proceed with the annexation of Occupied Palestine in the West Bank and Jordan Valley, which was set to commence today, 1 July 2020… This intended action translates to a process of ethnic cleansing, through a slow genocide of the Palestinian people located in these areas.

Pretoria – Member of Parliament and the grandson of former president Nelson Mandela, Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela, chief of the Mvezo Traditional Council, on Friday called on Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng to retract his statements expressing his apparent support for “apartheid Israel”.
… Mandela said the statements by the chief justice have done South Africa’s standing in the international community “a great disservice and detracted from our principled stand against apartheid Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people”.

As South Africa, we now have a serious dilemma where our chief justice implicitly supports a modern day colonial genocide with disregard for the human rights of the native Palestinians. In concrete terms what are the implications for our judiciary where the highest official of the land is guided by religion in his political opinions and actions? How could this possibly not influence crucial cases that land up in the Constitutional Court — many of which relate to the unfinished business of spartheid and colonialism such as the land question, housing, discrimination?

Zionist propagandist Sydney Kaye is apoplectic that Israeli government conduct towards Palestinians is increasingly acknowledged internationally as meeting the legal criteria of genocide, plus apartheid and war crimes.

Palestinians are experiencing a slow genocide, and the world has a moral responsibility to make its voice heard against the perpetrators of this violence and brutality. Local vs international protests in the face of injustice should not be an either/or option.
