“We call on all producers and exporters of perishable food products to boycott Apartheid Israel as long as the regime continues its occupation of Palestinian lands and the perpetration of crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing and genocide. As South Africans we cannot be party to supporting Apartheid and the gross violation of the human rights of the Palestinian people.”

While the controversy rages on, it is important to remind AU member states to be mindful of their responsibility to adhere to various international conventions which Israel is in violation of. As a serial perpetrator, the Zionist entity is not only guilty of the crime of Apartheid; it stands accused of war crimes and incremental genocide.
International humanitarian law of occupation contains a prohibition against deporting or transferring parts of the civilian population of the Occupying Power into Occupied Territory. Such illegal transfers carried out by Israel are to alter the demographic composition of the population of the occupied territory…

Protesters demand South Africa boycott, divest and impose sanctions on Israel. About 300 people marched to Parliament on Tuesday afternoon to protest against the recent deadly Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip. Chanting “Allahu Akbar” (God is great), the protesters waved Palestinian flags. Some protesters wore T-shirts with “Free Gaza, free Palestine”, and carried placards that read: “Stop Israel genocide of Palestine” and “Zionism – a menace to peace”.

SAs we repledge never never and never again the cries of our Palestinian brothers and sisters under siege in Al Aqsa, East Jerusalem and all of occupied Palestine falls on the deaf ears of the world. The hypocrisy of those who claim to mediate peace or promote normalisation but have allowed the proliferation of illegal settler expansion; Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem is a case in point. Ourselves as South Africans erstwhile beneficiaries of global solidarity and the Anti-Apartheid Movement cannot sit by idly. We cannot countenance normalisation of trade and travel with Apartheid Israel; we have a moral obligation to do more just as the Palestinian leadership under Fateh despite their own woes shared moral, financial and military support to our struggle. We must legislate support for the BDS campaign as a matter of urgency and quid pro quo for Apartheid Israel’s continued ethnic cleansing, genocide and extermination of Palestinian presence from the Land of their birth.

Notwithstanding Israeli propaganda, there is a growing international awareness of Israel’s destruction of more than 500 Palestinian villages over a period of two years (1947-1949), its cruel expulsion of the majority of people of historical Palestine, its refusal to grant them the right of return, its blatant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, its brutal occupation of Palestinian territories since 1967, its acquiescence of the continued theft of Palestinian property by settlers, its connivance in the destruction of Palestinian crops and property, its incremental genocide, and its extreme and questionable methods to achieve the Zionification of East Jerusalem.

… the Western Cape judgment has implications far beyond confirming our constitutional rights in support of freedom of expression in SA. Roadmap to Apartheid should now be shown throughout SA and globally, including on television, and thus begin to roll back spineless media and political collusion with Israeli war crimes, genocide and crimes against humanity in Palestine.

The Implementation and Protection of Palestinian Solidarity Rights Bill is a citizen’s bill, written by human rights attorney Ziyaad Patel and endorsed by Mandela, Nelson Mandela’s grandson, who is one of the ruling party’s parliamentarians. The bill was discussed at an online seminar on 20 March organised by the South African Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Coalition as part of Israeli Apartheid Week.
… “We know that the Palestinian cause is at a tipping point where Palestinians are undergoing an incremental genocide. South Africa sits with a huge responsibility and we need to be taking the Palestinian cause to the next level,” said Patel.

In 1948, Zionists proclaimed the settler-colonial state of Israel which too, as in the case of the Union of SA, received de jure recognition despite the fact that it was created as a result of the dispossession and mass expulsion of the indigenous population. However, Israel’s brutal occupation of the West Bank, its merciless siege of Gaza, its continued theft of Palestinian land and water resources, its settlement construction, its large-scale detention and imprisonment of Palestinians, and its practice of “incremental genocide” (a term used by a Jewish and non-Zionist academic, Ilan Pappe), continue to erode support for Israel and thus its legitimacy.

… it sends out a clear message that the Zionist lobby and its sympathisers cannot use members of the judiciary to further its global propaganda campaign to justify and normalise its genocide, epistemicide, ethnic cleansing and colonisation of Palestine.

Young Hearts for Palestine member Zaahidah Meyer said Palestine had stood with SA during apartheid and now all South Africans should stand with Palestine.
“We felt we had to do something because so many countries are making diplomatic deals with Israel and sort of ignoring the genocide that is imposed on Palestine and how people are being killed there every day, being killed for their land, something that can resonate with many South Africans.”
