Reflections from Gaza after Israel’s Elections by Haidar Eid

It is indicative of the official Israeli mindset that the genocidal siege of the Gaza Strip never seemed to register in the Jewish State’s overall strategy. And now we have Benjamin Netanyahu making a triumphant return with his fascist allies, Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. As far as Israelis or Israeli officials are concerned, Israel withdrew its troops and settlers from Gaza in 2005, leaving Gaza free. However, it has kept the keys to the crossings separating it from Gaza and has left the last crossing in the hands of its Egyptian allies. As far as Israeli mainstream politicians are concerned, the Palestinians of Gaza are very ungrateful for not accepting the blockade, for resisting it and for demanding their internationally sanctioned rights!

Canada is an example of British colonial settlerism that compares readily to the colonial settlerism in Palestine. The essay “Knowing and Not Knowing – Canada, Indigenous Peoples, Israel and Palestine” examines Canadian history of racism, ethnic cleansing, and genocide and its – mostly – similarities with Israel-Palestine. Contemporary events still uphold our “enacted values” which are “for the most part those of the corporate and security-state interests that have guided public policy.” Violence and dispossession are still elements of current Canadian society against its indigenous people.

Greenwashing gives ethical cover to colonial Zionist brutality. It also provides the rationale by which the JNF and various other pro-colonial Zionist organizations, foundations and non-profits enjoy charitable status. This charitable status allows the JNF to provide tax credits for donations, meaning that up to 25% of their budget comes from the public’s tax dollars. In other words, “charity” is being weaponized to facilitate ethnic cleansing and genocide in real time.

Israel Admits its Guilt (and Other Arguments) by Jim Miles

There are two solutions left.  First is the status quo, a slow genocide and ethnic removal of the Palestinian people, preferably to surrounding Arab states (Saudi Arabia, a US-Israeli ally would certainly not welcome them), or less preferably to small islets of apartheid.  The whole process could be sped up by a regional war, say with Iran, under cover of which Israel could attempt to expel masses of Palestinians.

The second solution is what many have demanded of Canada (remember, no double standards):  justice and restoration – of rights, of property, of health and education, of infrastructure, of legal equality as well as full political participation in the governance of the country. Simple solution, but entirely against the beliefs of the current Israeli system.

‘No Thanks, No Giving’ in the Time of the Coronavirus by Benay Blend

In the year of the coronavirus, when Americans mourn that their celebrations will be missing extended family members and friends, due either to their deaths or restrictions put in place to prevent more deaths, it would be good to remember that the original settlers were uninvited guests, intruding on land which they would steal from its inhabitants.

Refusing to tell the real story of Thanksgiving implies committing genocide again. By erasing the history of Indigenous people—whether Native American or Palestinian—we side with the oppressor who wants to literally remove the people who are native to the land.

“We talk about the history because we must,” said Mahtowin Munro (Wampanoag), a co-organizer for the 50th National Day of Mourning in 2019.

Why is an NDP MP Joining a Task Force Seeking to Force Twitter, Facebook to Apply Anti-Palestine Solidarity IHRA Definition? by Aidan Jonah

New Democratic Party member of parliament Randall Garrison recently joined an unofficial task force which is lobbying Facebook and Twitter to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which considers any criticism of Israel or solidarity with Palestine anti-semitic. The NDP is Canada’s social-democratic political party.

… Garrison perplexingly claims that he “opposes Israeli annexation of Palestinian land and “remain[s] committed to getting Canada to work toward a two state solution where both sides can live in peace & security.” Remarkably, Garrison equates genocide against the Palestinian people to minor acts of resistance by Palestinians.

Bueckert called out Garrison for this false equivalence, stating that “if you won’t support Canada taking concrete action to stop Israeli annexation, you don’t really oppose it.”
