In Gaza, we’ve resorted to drinking salty water just to keep ourselves from fainting by Hassan Herzallah

A neighbor in the camp noticed that I was about to fall and helped me sit in a corner by the road. When it was my turn and I filled up my water, my friend helped me carry the two bottles. At that moment, I wanted to tell my parents what had happened, but I held back. I thought, “If I tell them, they’ll worry.” I decided to rest a little and go out in the afternoon to buy what we needed.

But I couldn’t go out at that time. I felt extremely dizzy, and the heat was stifling — we lived in tents with no shade under a scorching sun.

That day, we didn’t eat anything for breakfast. I waited until the weather calmed down a bit, then went to the market to buy something. I hadn’t expected to see it so empty.

  1. Waad says she started running, searching for her brothers. “I checked my body as I ran — ‘Are my eyes in place? Is my head OK? My legs, my hands, my face?’” she recalled thinking.
  2. “I was running around, surrounded by corpses, blood, [scattered] pots of [the] children who had lined up at the food kitchen, and gallons of water,” she said.
  3. “I saw people carrying a young man with a shattered leg, and another young man running behind them with an amputated leg, screaming, ‘I found his leg,’” she said quietly, at some points crying as she recalled the attack.
  4. “I saw a pregnant woman lying on the ground, bleeding from between her legs, next to an injured child whose arm was gone.”

… “Surviving here is a matter of luck. Every one of us waits for his turn in this ongoing genocide,” Badee’ said.

… “The scene was terrifying. Children were dismembered. There was blood everywhere. Rubble fell directly on the tents of the displaced in the middle of the hospital,” al-Hasanat recalled, looking frightened as she sat in the courtyard in front of the part of the school that was hit.

  1. On Saturday, 8 June 2024, the Israeli occupying forces (IOF) perpetrated yet another genocidal massacre against the Palestinian people in Gaza. During a military attack in Nuseirat Refugee Camp and across other areas of central Gaza, the IOF killed at least 274 Palestinians and injured around 698 others, including 161 women and 153 children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Among the number of casualties were amputees and serious injuries. The military attack, which lasted around 75 minutes, featured the use of deadly force and heavy firing in a densely populated area, primarily inhabited by internally displaced persons (IDPs), proving once again no regard for Palestinian life.

‘I heard all of my friends’ last breath’: Testimonies from the Nuseirat massacre by Tareq S. Hajjaj

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

  1. Issam Hajjaj, 27, survived the massacre and spoke to Mondoweiss. “We were running away from bombing and killing. In all directions, there was either bombing, an Israeli tank, or Israeli gunmen shooting at anyone in their path,” he explained. “While we were running away from death, I saw dismembered bodies on the road as a result of the bombing, and I saw those who left their loved ones under the rubble and fled to save the rest of the family.”
  2. “We did not know from which direction death would come for us.”

Hajjaj says that within minutes of the invasion starting, Israeli forces surrounded the targeted location from all sides and did not leave any route for people to escape except one road, Al-Zuhur Road connecting Nuseirat and Deir Al-Balah. However, just at the same time that the Nuseirat massacre took place, people near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah were fleeing to Nuseirat, and people were using this street to arrive.

Hajjaj explained that the targeted location was two buildings near Al Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat camp, but to reach these two buildings, the Israeli army destroyed an entire residential square.

My Nuseirat by Haidar Eid

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

  1. I am writing this piece hours after genocidal Israel killed 274 and injured more than 400 beautiful Nuseiraties, many of whom are my relatives, friends, and students — only to rescue four of its captives. 64 of the victims were children, and 57 were women. Those who were brutally murdered were either going to or coming back from Camp Souk, having their breakfast, playing in the street, going to the Al Awda hospital, cooking food, and visiting relatives and friends, i.e., the timing was chosen carefully in order to kill as many people as possible.
