- According to testimonies gathered by Euro-Med Monitor, the Israeli army subsequently transferred Dr. Abu Safiya to a field interrogation site in the Al-Fakhura area of Jabalia Refugee Camp. There, he was forced to strip off his clothes and was subjected to severe beatings, including being whipped with a thick wire commonly used for street electrical wiring. Soldiers deliberately humiliated him in front of other detainees, including fellow medical staff. He was later taken to an undisclosed location before being transferred to the Sde Teyman military camp under Israeli army control.
… The detention of Dr. Abu Safiya must be understood within the context of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, which has persisted for nearly 15 months. His arrest, torture, and potential execution form part of a broader strategy aimed at destroying the Palestinian people in Gaza—both physically and psychologically—and breaking their will.

- On December 27, 2024, the Israeli Defense Forces completed their months-long siege of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last functioning hospital in north Gaza, raiding and burning down the facility, and conducting deliberate killings, field executions, and acts of sexual assault and humiliation against medical personnel, patients, and other civilians. As part of this criminal rampage, Israeli forces abducted the hospital’s director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, along with hundreds of other hospital staff and patients. After standing up against 447 days of genocide and 83 days of complete extermination and ethnic cleansing in north Gaza, Dr. Abu Safiya now faces an even more terrifying future, experienced by other medical professionals in Gaza: torture and eventual execution by Israeli forces.

- The units of Israeli infantry and armoured forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital and its vicinity on Friday, following weeks of siege, artillery and air bombardment, and targeted attacks on medical and technical staff working in the hospital. The attacks also disabled the hospital’s operational capacities by targeting power generators and oxygen production equipment.
- According to testimonies collected by Euro-Med Monitor’s field team, Israeli forces committed a series of horrific crimes during their assault on the hospital. These included detonating booby-trapped robots near several inhabited homes, causing their collapse and killing civilians inside. The crimes also involved Israeli soldiers executing civilians on the spot, some of whom were wounded, while others carried white flags.
- The Israeli army detained dozens of women and girls, subjecting them to severe abuse amounting to sexual harassment, alongside degrading treatment that violated their human dignity. This included beating them and forcing them to remove their hijabs and clothing.

- “After the army left, the army threw burning bombs at the school, and those who remained inside and tried to take cover were burned alive by the Israeli army,” al-Sharif said. While al-Sharif did not clarify the nature of what he described as “burning bombs,” other reports from witnesses indicated that it was artillery shelling.
- According to the latest numbers from officials in Gaza, at least 43 people were killed in the Israeli attack on the school.
- The Civil Defense said in a statement published on Telegram that its crews spoke to witnesses who had fled the Khalil Awida school towards Gaza City after the Israeli attack. “The displaced families…saw decomposing bodies in the streets, and they saw more than 15 charred and completely burned bodies inside the school…before they were forced to evacuate.”
- The Civil Defense added that the Israeli army also bombed homes surrounding the school, and that cries could still be heard of people trapped under the rubble.

Early this morning, Israeli occupation forces resumed military assaults on civilians in Beit Lahia, conducting deadly raids on homes and streets before encircling Kamal Adwan Hospital, which remains partially operational, along with two other hospitals in northern Gaza.
According to Euro-Med field field teams, Israeli forces used Palestinian detainees as human shields, forcing them to warn hospital staff that all displaced persons and companions of patients must leave the premises and head to areas controlled by Israeli forces. Many were arrested upon arrival, while others were forced to flee to a checkpoint in the Civil Administration are and eventually to Gaza City.
The Israeli military also forced the evacuation of the Indonesian medical delegation volunteering at Kamal Adwan Hospital, leaving without their vehicles. The assault near Kamal Adwan Hospital lasted several hours, leaving between 30 and 50 people dead in nearby streets and homes. Witnesses report that searches for additional victims are ongoing.

Witnesses describe tear-streaked children covered in dust running panicked in the streets as warplanes and drones roared overhead. Some pleaded for water but Israeli soldiers refused to give them anything and instead poured water on the ground in front of them to taunt them, according to witnesses. At the checkpoint, Israeli troops separated the men and detained them as their families screamed in desperation. Witnesses described children clinging to Israeli tanks in a desperate attempt to stay with their fathers.
After the checkpoint, families were forced to walk for hours more, through the day, making their way a harrowing 10 kilometers south to Gaza City. Some of the wounded fell on the road with no hope of getting treatment. “I was walking with my sister in the street,” said Rahaf, 16. She and her sister were the sole survivors in their family of an earlier airstrike that killed 70 people. “Suddenly my sister fell due to the bombing. I saw blood pouring from her, but I couldn’t do anything. I left her in the street, and no one pulled her out. I was screaming, but no one heard me.”

For a month, Palestinian civilians in northern Gaza have been faced with three bitter choices: to be killed by Israeli bombardment, starved to death or forcibly displaced in a perilous journey to the south.- It is part of a military plan that legal experts have described to Middle East Eye as “genocidal” and aimed at permanent forced displacement of the northern Gaza population, as settlers plan for post-war colonisation of the Palestinian enclave.
… “Imposing a siege, preventing all access to food, water, medicine and shelter, all with an intention to force a population to leave, is textbook ethnic cleansing and is a grave crime under international law. It is both a war crime and a crime against humanity,” Balakrishnan Rajagopal, a law professor at MIT and UN special rapporteur on the right to housing, told MEE.
“Forcible displacement in northern Gaza under conditions of siege with an intent to eliminate their presence is genocidal, as it aims at the destruction of a people,” he added.
