Israel’s position as a global cyber power is the outcome of a tightly integrated public-private apparatus, linking the military and intelligence establishment with a robust surveillance technology sector. This ecosystem, shaped through decades of settler-colonial domination and military occupation, enables the rapid development, refinement, and deployment of digital tools designed to monitor, classify, and eliminate. Technologies are first tested on Palestinians, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank, then refined for export. As Loewenstein argues in his 2023 book on Palestine as a laboratory, the Israeli occupation has been of surveillance capitalism. Palestinians have become the subjects of what is now widely identified as the world’s first AI-powered genocide.

New 7amleh Report: Meta Monetizes Settlements and Violence Against Palestinians by 7amleh

The report finds that the issue goes beyond Meta’s failure to remove or limit such content; it extends to financially enabling it through monetization programs. In doing so, the company not only tolerates violent and inciting speech but actively incentivizes its production and spread, violating its own monetization and content policies, disregarding its responsibilities under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and contravening international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

The report presents a representative sample of monetized Israeli right-wing pages and accounts, including those linked to the settlement movement, far-right public figures, and media outlets known for incitement. It also documents cases involving entities that should be ineligible for monetization under Meta’s own policies, such as government bodies. The sample includes pages that promote illegal outposts, justify settler violence, mock Palestinian victims, call for forced displacement, or celebrate destruction and genocide in Gaza.

Google is in the middle of a six-month, $45 million contract to amplify propaganda with Netanyahu’s office. The contract describes Google as a “key entity” supporting the prime minister’s messaging.

… Publicly available government contracts show that Israel’s advertising bureau, which reports to the prime minister’s office, has since embarked on a mass advertising and public messaging effort to conceal the hunger crisis. The push includes the use of American influencers widely reported on last month. It also includes a high-dollar spending spree on paid advertising, yielding tens of millions for Google, YouTube, X, Meta, and other tech platforms.

  1. … none of the social media platforms — including Meta, YouTube, X, TikTok, or messaging apps such as Telegram — has publicly outlined policies designed to mitigate hate speech and incitement to violence in relation to the conflict.
  2. Instead, these platforms remain flooded with war propaganda, dehumanizing speech, genocidal statements, explicit calls to violence, and racist hate speech. In some cases, platforms are taking down pro-Palestinian content, blocking accounts, and sometimes shadow banning users voicing their support for the people of Gaza.

Urgent need to investigate role of technology, social media companies in killing Gazan civilians by Euromed Human Rights Monitor

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

Google, Meta, and other technology and social media companies may have colluded with Israel in crimes and violations against the Palestinian people, including extrajudicial killings, in defiance of international law and these companies’ stated human rights commitments.

Social networks should not be releasing this kind of personal data about their users or taking part in the Israeli genocide against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip. An international investigation is required in order to provide guarantees of accountability for those responsible, and justice for the victims.
