Israel’s invasion in the summer of 1982 entailed the Siege of Beirut. More than 17,000 civilians were killed and more than 30,000 wounded in ferocious attacks. Israel was also complicit in the Sabra and Shatila genocide
… In her poem “Apologies to All the People in Lebanon,” June Jordan deconstructs the dominant U.S.-Israeli narrative in Lebanon. In dedicating the piece “to the 600,000 Palestinian men, women, and children who lived in Lebanon from 1948-1983,” Jordan implies the continuity of genocide.

Senior Lebanese Scholar: Israel after judaization of Jerusalem to seize al-Aqsa Mosque by Ahlul Bayt News Agency

Hujjat al-Islam Fadhlullah said that the Zionist regime’s inhumane project consists of several parts and stressed that the main component of their project is targeting Palestinian families and killing their children. “Israel does not hesitate to destroy the focus of Palestinian households,” he said…. The renowned Lebanese scholar stated that Israel’s killing of Palestinians in the West Bank is an example of genocide and stated: “The discrimination and violence against the Palestinian people and efforts to expel the remaining Palestinians in the West Bank are part of Israel’s program to Judaize Jerusalem al-Quds so they can easily seize the al-Aqsa Mosque.”

International Exhibition ‘GAZA Put into Words’ Reveals Unknown Stories of Palestine

“Ten… It’s the number of the wars on Gaza since 2001; the most enduring genocide in the history of mankind.”

In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, As-Safir newspaper launched an international campaign under the name of “GAZA Put into Words” in a press conference held at the UNESCO Palace in Beirut on Wednesday February 18, 2015, under the patronage of H.E. Mr, Roni Araiji, Minister of Culture and the presence of H.E. Mr. Ramzi Joreige, Minister of Information, H.E. Mr. Elias Bou Saab, Minister of Education and Higher Education and H.E. Mr. Mohamad Fneish, Minister of State, in addition to a number of diplomats and media representatives.

After the press conference the “GAZA Put into Words” photo exhibition was launched and continued in UNESCO until Saturday February the 21st. The main idea of the project is to reveal the unknown stories of Gaza in Palestine hidden behind numbers and letters, in the past and in the present. The tragedy of Gaza (and of Palestine as a whole) did not start in a summer morning in 2014; it goes back more than sixty years.

Boycotting Israel: the situation has changed and I have changed my mind too

Israel’s use of force in this assault, as in the Lebanon war of 2006 and the two previous major attacks on Gaza, thus involves far more than the risk-transfer war that other western countries routinely practice. This is at least classic degenerate warfare, recalling Britain’s great shame of the second world war, its targeting of German cities to break civilian “morale”. This is “war” of a kind that the Geneva conventions of 1949 outlaw. Indeed if Israel’s aim is now to destroy Gazan society, rather than just to subjugate it, the killing in Gaza raises questions of genocide. (The subjective basis of ‘genocide’ is certainly present in Israel, as indicated by the remarks of Knesset member Ayelet Shaked and the notorious Times of Israel blogpost about ‘permissible genocide’ – perhaps one of the first open calls for ‘genocide’ as such on record. On the critical side, Daniel Feierstein, President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, has argued on Facebook that Israel’s policies are genocidal. Certainly, its campaign shows the affinities of what I call ‘degenerate war’ with genocide.)

Convoys of youths and community members departed from several community centres at the Burj Shemali and Rashidieh refugee camps, near Tyre (Sur) in Southern Lebanon, to a local beach. Upon arrival, a Palestinian student band played various national songs as students tied nametags for the dead to red, black, white, and green balloons.
The community members held signs calling on the world to stop Israel’s mass slaughter in Gaza and emphasising the genocidal nature of the Israeli offensive. They also proudly embraced their right to resist the Israeli occupation, as well as their legal right to return to Palestine.

For Israel’s relentless war on Gaza is no more an act of “self-defense” than such infamous massacres as Wounded Knee (1890), Guernica (1937), the Warsaw Ghetto (1942), Deir Yassin (1948), My Lai (1968), Soweto (1976), Sabra and Shatila (1982), or Lebanon (2006).

Rather, it is but the latest chapter in more than a century of Zionist colonialism, dispossession, ethnic cleaning, racism, and genocide — including Israel’s very establishment through the uprooting and displacement of over 750,000 Palestinians during the 1947-1948 Nakba.
