Israel just got its most right-wing Prime Minister ever, in the form of Naftali Bennett. We have already seen the signs that Israeli pundits were trying to sanitize his racist history, to make him a better sell than Netanyahu. But what do you do with phrases such as “I’ve killed many Arabs in my life, and there’s no problem with that”? I mean, that’s one of the singularly most racist things he’s said, it’s often quoted, and it’s not only racist but has a genocidal hint to it?

Inside the general paradigm of colonialism, there exist variations. Settler-colonialism, that is colonialism that does not involve a ‘mother-country’, is generally known to be the more deadly variant, in that it is inherently eliminationist regarding the native population, whereas in other variants there is that ‘mother-country’ option to go back to. Lentin defines the Israeli example as special in its multi-faceted racialization of both white supremacy and Jewish supremacy, yet under the overall paradigm of colonialism, and particularly settler-colonialism, she does not view the Israeli example as particularly special, nor surprising. And its eliminationist aspect is inherently genocidal, she says, though the project was not necessarily about making all the natives disappear at once.

… with the increasing rise of right-wing and fascist leaders in what is generally considered the West and beyond, these expressions seem to survive with little condemnation, and the fascists even rejoice in their rejection of ‘political correctness’, and in the belief that now one may be more honest about one’s racism and genocidal policies.
This explains very well the bromance between Netanyahu and ultra-nationalists such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban (who has engaged in Jew-baiting and praise of Nazi collaborators), Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte (who compared himself to Hitler), or the newly elected Brasilian President Jair Bolsonaro…

I had already referred in detail to the representation of Azarya as a “positive personality and his being a normative person,” even though Azarya shares his genocidal values openly with his close family, which supports them too. If Azarya is “normative” by the court, then it deems genocide “normative”.

“Perhaps if we don’t give them enough water they won’t have a choice, because the orchards will yellow and wither.”
That is what Israeli Prime Minster Levi Eshkol said in 1967 about Gaza, as revealed in newly declassified documents from the time. Ofer Aderet of Haaretz reported about this today.
… The logic here is, after all, Zionism 101. Nonetheless, they can still be shocking to read, and they should be. These are statements that convey clear intention of ethnic cleansing, and even Genocide. Emptying out, suffocation, deprivation of water till orchards wither. These words are not uttered by rightist Zionist leaders, but by leftist ones. No wonder Israel keeps these archives hidden for 50 years and more.

It looks like genocide, it talks like genocide, it walks like genocide. What do you call it?Astonishingly, most Israelis will probably go “Hamas!!”, because they can’t conceive Jews committing genocide. Although biblical Jewish history is quite full of it.
I got this letter from Khalid Al-Azayzeh, Gaza Field Researcher for B’tselem…

When we look at genocidal regimes in history, the fact that they applied occupation did not normally overshadow their graver crimes.

“The campaign in support of Elor Azarya cannot be seen as disconnected from the overall genocidal vein that he and his actions represent. If cold-blooded murder can only be considered ‘murder’ by 5% of the Israeli public, then that means that Netanyahu’s claim that “Israeli soldiers are not murderers” must be an overarching axiom. The axiom means that they cannot be – because Azarya’s murder was crystal clear, it can’t get clearer than that. If the soldiers CANNOT be murderers, it must therefore be because those whom they murder are not real humans. This is the rather unmistakable dehumanization that is so characteristic to genocidal societies.”
