As one of the few international observers allowed into Gaza, I can tell you; spend just five minutes in a hospital there and it will become painfully clear that Palestinians are being intentionally massacred, starved, and stripped of everything needed to sustain human life. Collectively for the past 14 months, we have treated people subjected to civilian massacre after civilian massacre at the few remaining, partially functioning hospitals in Gaza. Entire families have been eliminated. Wiped off of the civil registry. Our healthcare and humanitarian colleagues are being killed at record numbers. We have treated countless children who have lost their entire families. A phenomenon so frequent in Gaza that it has been given a specific name. Wounded Child No Surviving Family. We held the hands of children as they took their last breaths with no one but a stranger to comfort them. Those who recovered enough to leave the hospital continue to face the obvious risk of death, be it through another bombing, starvation, dehydration, or disease. History has clearly shown us that doctors can’t stop genocide. This is why it’s called The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. And this is why I, as a doctor, am here today, pleading to you.
On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November, the WFTU, representing 105 million workers in 133 countries, reiterates its firm internationalist support and solidarity with the heroic Palestinian people… We express our full, firm and long-standing class solidarity with the people of Palestine and their struggle for an independent homeland. We actively reject the genocide against our Palestinian brothers and sisters perpetrated by the imperialist criminal government of Israel.
What Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza are living through is a process of what Israeli revisionist historian Ilan Pappe has described to be an “incremental genocide.” …It is the responsibility of citizens of the world to isolate Israel through an intensive boycott, divestment, and sanctions campaign until it complies with international law. …While the leaders of the official international community stand complicit with Israel, we rely on people of courage and conscience to join us in our struggle… …The only way we can redeem the blood of those who have been barbarically killed since the 1948 Nakba is to make sure that their surviving families live in a just society where all citizens are equal regardless of gender, color, race, ethnic, sexual background, or religion.
“We repudiate with all our strength the persecution and genocide that, in its time, unleashed Nazism against the Hebrew people,” Horacio Sevilla Borja said on International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People at the U.N.. “But I cannot remember anything more similar in our contemporary history than the eviction, persecution and genocide that today imperialism and Zionism do against the Palestinian people.”
Also speaking during the event was Amb. Salah Sahboon, Ambassador of Arab League to Ethiopia and the AU who emphasized the need to embody firm historical commitment of Africa for the liberation of Palestine underlining the importance of collective responsibility in order to protect and promote the Palestinian Peoples’ full rights. He strongly condemned Israeli occupation in the land of Palestinians, the systematic crimes of Israel genocide
