Facing the entrance to the Fairmont Hotel, over 125 students and community members gathered on Saturday in downtown Austin to demand the shutdown of the Israeli-American Council National Summit. The annual IAC Summit was held this year to celebrate “Israel’s 75th birthday”… Protesters gathered on 2nd St. at Sir Swante Neighborhood Park, chanting and holding signs which read “Free Palestine” and “#ShutDownIAC.” The protest was organized by Shut Down IAC, a campaign led by UT student organization Palestine Solidarity Committee in conjunction with other pro-Palestine groups from across the state.
Organizers from Shut Down IAC also said that they protested the Summit because it normalized Israeli occupation and falsely presented the Israeli state as progressive and peaceful. “They cover up their war crimes through tactics known as rainbow washing in order to appeal to liberals and progressives,” said a member of PSC during a speech. “They’re rebranding a country founded upon the genocide of Palestinians as a welcoming place for all people.”
Dearborn, MI – The Palestinian Youth Movement-Detroit and Students Allied for Freedom and Equality, with support from Freedom Road Socialist Organization members, kicked off the week of solidarity work on January 12 supporting a demonstration by Students Allied for Freedom and Equality (SAFE). When U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris visited the University of Michigan for a speaking event on the environment, SAFE took the opportunity to let passersby on campus know that VP Harris is a stalwart supporter of genocide in Palestine.
On December 28th, 2022 Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted that “the Jewish people have an exclusive and unquestionable right to all areas of the Land of Israel. The government will promote and develop settlement in all parts of the Land of Israel — in the Galilee, the Negev, the Golan, Judea and Samaria,” making its new government priority an explicit and total Jewish supremacy over historical Palestine at the expense of any Palestinian land claims. In light of Netanyahu’s profoundly disturbing statement, as well as the recent provocations by Israeli political leaders in an increasingly extremist political context, the Lemkin Institute for the Prevention of Genocide is issuing a genocide red flag alert for Israel.
Released last week, and promptly seconded by the American Jewish Committee, the ADL survey reports that 40 percent of Americans believe that Israel treats Palestinians as Nazis treated Jews — a remarkable indication of Israel’s sinking reputation in the U.S.
After 74 years, Israel’s gradual ethnic cleansing of Palestinians continues, through the continuous “Judaization” operations in the Galilee and the Negev, and settlement operations and annexation of Palestinian lands in the West Bank, especially in Jerusalem and the Jordan Valley, which confirms that the Nakba continues.
…Zionism, which arose in the context of European imperialist and colonial expansion, is the intellectual and ideological basis of settler-colonialism in Palestine. It is a racist, genocidal ideology that encourages terrorism and fascism, as our people has witnessed for 74 years.

Elran’s lecture materials pay virtually no attention to the horrific violence that Israel’s so-called security regime inflicts daily and systematically on the millions of Palestinians Israel occupies. Elran’s lectures display no serious concern, for example, regarding Israel’s programmatic theft of Palestinian land, its demolition of Palestinian homes, its collective punishment of Palestinian communities, its biological warfare against Palestinian civilians, its mass destruction of Palestinian olive groves, or its torture of Palestinian children—to say nothing of its “strategy” of periodically massacring the Palestinians it holds captive in the Gaza Strip. All this and more apparently passes, in Elran’s worldview, for so many forms of “counter-terrorism,” while the various means by which Palestinians fight to resist these genocidal practices are broadly dismissed throughout his lectures as emotional, hostile, or “terrorist[ic]” in nature.
Israeli occupiers killed at least 171 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 2022. At least 9,000 more Palestinians were reported injured that year. (Al Jazeera, Jan. 2)… As the ultrarightist coalition government of Israel is doubling down on its attack against the Palestinian people, it is important for anti-imperialists in the U.S. to express solidarity with the struggle for their liberation. Now is the time for activists to help organize protests for Palestine and encourage boycotts, divestments and other actions against the Zionist, colonial settler state.
For many years, Shatzi’s commitment to social justice movements coexisted with Zionism, another inheritance from her family. Her politics changed because she never considered the process of getting into alignment with her values to be finished: she decided that if she was going to figure out her place in the women’s movement as a Jewish lesbian, she ought to “learn more about the Middle East.” In doing so, she arrived at the position that Israel, which purported to speak in the name of Jews, was enacting a slow genocide against Palestinians on Palestinian land. In a 2020 conversation with JVP-NYC, Shatzi said that this realization “just broke my heart”… Two of the now-iconic signs she carried with her to actions read “Jewish dyke standing with Palestinian queers,” and “This 90 year old Jew says Zionism is genocide,” and she went nowhere without her rainbow flag. She made it clear that the struggles to which she devoted her life were not only interconnected, but inseparable.
