Israeli leaders lit the match that burned baby Ali Dawabsha by Rania Khalek

In Israel, killing Palestinians and advocating for genocide builds political careers.

Violent demagogues occupy key positions in government, not in spite of their anti-Palestinian incitement or the killings they have perpetrated, but because of them. After endorsing a call last June for Palestinian mothers to be slaughtered in their beds to prevent them from birthing “little snakes,” Israeli lawmaker Ayelet Shaked was rewarded by being appointed justice minister…  Eli Ben-Dahan, the settler rabbi in occupied East Jerusalem who decreed that “[Palestinians] are beasts, they are not human,” is Israel’s recently appointed deputy defense minister. He is now in charge of the “Civil Administration,” the name Israel gives to the military body that rules Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. It is no accident that clerics like Ben-Dahan have been largely silent about baby Ali. After all, they inspire an extreme messianic, eliminationist version of Judaism that drives settler violence… Politicians that rule a society where Palestinian babies are routinely called a “demographic threat,” and where many joyfully celebrate their slaughter, cannot claim innocence and purport to be “shocked” when settlers burn Palestinian children alive.

Obama gives $1.9 billion in weapons as welcome gift to Israel’s racist government by Rania Khalek

The Obama administration approved a $1.9 billion arms sale to Israel in recent days as “compensation” for the US nuclear deal with Iran, which the Israeli regime staunchly opposes. Among the tens of thousands of bombs included in the weapons package are 3,000 Hellfire missiles, 12,000 general purpose bombs and 750 bunker buster bombs that can penetrate up to twenty feet, or six meters, of reinforced concrete… Israel used those bunker buster munitions to pummel Gaza’s high rise towers and wipe out entire families as they sheltered in their homes during Operation Protective Edge, the 2014 Israeli assault that ultimately killed over 2,200 Palestinians, most of them civilians, including over 500 children.

Interviews with Dr. Mona El-Farra and Yafa Jarrar by Nora Barrows-Friedman

Dr. Mona El-Farra: “… I cannot absorb or understand or get on with what happened to us during the 51 days. It was beyond words. It was not just war crimes — there was a systematic way of genocide. They were trying to get rid of us all. And of course I’m glad and relieved of the ceasefire, because if it didn’t start, there would have been more destruction than what we saw in Gaza. So I’m relieved it happened.”

Yafa Jarrar: “Being in solidarity includes being a part of their campaigns, being in continuous communication with them, because this is what makes us stronger. One of the things that unites us — as Palestinians and as indigenous people here on Turtle Island — is that we’re both subject to colonial projects. Now, these colonial projects differ, but they have a lot of striking similarities that we see. History repeats itself. Greed repeats itself and manifests itself in different ways. And we see a lot of similarities in terms of the actual apartheid policies that exist, let’s say, in Palestine by the Israeli apartheid regime and the policies that the indigenous people have been subject to here on Turtle Island and particularly here in Canada. Residential schools, different forms of projects that led slowly to what is called or used as ethnic cleansing of certain people. Legal separation. We see it here with the reserve system. Residential schools — people still suffer from it today. And the same in Palestine – we see these kinds of legal separations and slow genocide, and ethnic cleansing. In many ways it’s slow, but we’ve seen it happening quicker with the situation in Gaza recently.”

“Concentrate” and “exterminate”: Israel parliament deputy speaker’s Gaza genocide plan by Ali Abunimah

Citizens and public authorities around the world should attempt to have Feiglin arrested and prosecuted under the Genocide Convention for his statements, should he set foot in their territories.

His abominable plan comes as the death toll from Israel’s ongoing slaughter in Gaza reaches 1,752 people, including ten persons killed on Sunday morning when Israel once again bombed a United Nations-run school being used as a shelter, this time in the southern town of Rafah

In addition to outright acts of genocide, punishable crimes under the convention include “direct and public incitement to commit genocide”; “conspiracy to commit genocide” and “complicity in genocide.”

Any fair-minded prosecutor would see that Feiglin’s statements provide ample probable cause for action under the convention.

Ending Zionism is a feminist issue by Nada Elia

As Israel’s assault on the besieged Palestinian population in Gaza approaches its third week, we continue to hear about the “disproportionate number” of women and children victims. This expression begs the question: what is a proportionate number of women and children killed in a genocide?
