We are medical workers and human rights lawyers, talking to you today in response to Israel’s sudden ban on medical teams entering Gaza… We are speaking from stolen land. Treaty land that has not been honored or respected by the southern colonial state of Canada. The historical and ongoing impacts of colonialism are experienced by indigenous peoples, First Nations, Inuit, Métis; here, on this occupied land. What is happening in Palestine right now is an extension, an example of the colonial and capitalistic interest of the West, including Canada. In February of this year, I entered Gaza with Leah on the first delegation of healthcare workers, as an emergency medical team, under the coordination of the World Health Organization. I saw, first hand, the importance of these humanitarian missions to bring in essential medications and supplies. Provide some respite for our Palestinian healthcare worker colleagues and bear witness, in solidarity, with people facing unimaginable, genocidal, colonial violence.
