An international conference looking at the on-going cultural genocide of indigenous peoples in Palestine, Myanmar and China. Throughout the last century, the Palestinian people were subjected to policies that have often been described as genocidal. They included acts aimed at destroying their national culture, political autonomy and national will. A central feature of this tragedy was the destruction and depopulation of some 418-531 villages. These acts were not consequences of war; they were, in fact, carefully planned and executed.

Amnesty calls on UN powers to surrender veto on genocide votes

Amnesty International has urged the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to give up their power of veto in cases where atrocities are being committed… The rights group urged the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States – to renounce their veto rights in situations of genocide and mass atrocities. Since 2011, Russia and China have cast four vetoes to block international action in Syria, where more than 210,000 have been killed since the conflict began, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Security Council has failed to deal with conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Gaza, Israel and Ukraine, even when civilians had been subjected to “horrific crimes”, Amnesty said.

Is Israel thinking of genocide? by Zhao Jinglun

I have not yet felt it necessary to use that terrible word, but what the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) is doing in Gaza comes pretty close. One of Israel’s largest-circulation newspapers, the Times of Israel, actually published an article entitled “When Genocide is Permissible.” Though the article was later withdrawn, and an apology was issued, it shows that some influential Israelis are thinking about a “final solution” to the Palestinian problem.
