A vote on a controversial resolution expressing support for Palestine and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel will likely be shelved during a meeting this week of members of the union representing Los Angeles Unified teachers. A substitute motion is expected to be introduced during Thursday’s meeting that calls for the original motion to be postponed indefinitely and for voluntary forums about the conflict in the Middle East to be held instead… Supporters of the original resolution have accused the Israeli government of committing apartheid and genocide against Palestinians.

Go back to my country? As a Palestinian, I wish I could by Layla Darwish

The mainstream media and politicians continue to refer to what is happening as a “conflict”, and yet with Israeli and international human rights groups describing Israel as an “apartheid” state — and apartheid is akin to a crime against humanity — the situation has all the hallmarks of a genocide. Israel is continuing to entrench its occupation of my country to cement, not a democracy, but a racist Jewish ethnocracy. That’s why we see Palestinians being denied the right to worship and their legitimate right to return; it’s why we see Palestinian children shot and killed to make way for illegal Jewish settlers. Israel is a settler-colonial state, and has been since the Nakba when it was created in Palestine and the ethnic cleansing of my people began in earnest.Israel just got its most right-wing Prime Minister ever, in the form of Naftali Bennett. We have already seen the signs that Israeli pundits were trying to sanitize his racist history, to make him a better sell than Netanyahu. But what do you do with phrases such as “I’ve killed many Arabs in my life, and there’s no problem with that”? I mean, that’s one of the singularly most racist things he’s said, it’s often quoted, and it’s not only racist but has a genocidal hint to it?

It’s not a conflict; it’s state-sanctioned genocide against Palestine on El Tecolote

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

In the coverage of Israel’s attacks on Palestinians in Sheik Jarrah, in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in occupied Jerusalem, and since the establishment of the Israeli state, major U.S. media outlets have continuously framed Israeli state-sanctioned genocide against Palestinians as the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”… “Israeli-Palestinian Hostilities” from the New York Times. “Surge in Israeli-Palestinian conflict prompts concern…” writes The Boston Globe. “Israeli-Palestinian Violence” declares NPR, all coining the violence Palestinians are experiencing as mutual. This framing of Israel and Palestine in a “conflict” or “crisis” validates the violent genocidal settler-colonialism enacted by the nation-state of Israel and its military through the demonization of Palestine as a complicit aggressor, assuming that they are operating on equal terms. Israel is an internationally funded nation-state, occupying Palestine’s unceded West Bank and Gaza, settling Palestinian land, and forcing native Palestinians out.

A veto against a just peace for all in Palestine and Israel by Daniel A. Segal

… the current Israeli election offers but two possible policy outcomes: more of the same and far worse.  The opposition “Blue and White” alliance is committed to maintaining this status quo, as if armed oppression can be continued indefinitely or judged to be anything other than an ethical travesty—or, let me say it, anything other than a betrayal of Jewish ethics.  The opposition alliance has no plans for negotiations, none for peace, and none for justice.  Its clearest pledge is that no Palestinian or Arab citizens of Israel will be brought into its government: its clearest stance is, in short, a commitment to racism.  As for Prime Minister Netanyahu’s electoral alliance, its candidates talk brazenly of annexing the West Bank—a project given new impetus by Donald Trump’s recent pronouncement that it is time for the U.S. to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. And since these same Israeli politicians are unequivocal that Israel must have a Jewish majority, the proposed annexation of the West Bank portends ethnic cleansing, even genocide.

Who Killed the People of California? Should Kaepernick Protest His Uniform? by David Swanson

I urge anyone who cares to take a close look at what was done to California and at what is being done to Palestine, and tell me what the difference is. Those pursuing genocide now hope that past genocides will be forgotten, and that in the future present genocides will be forgotten.
