The danger of treating Smotrich as an anomaly by Edo Konrad

Yet the shortsighted attempt to compartmentalize Israeli extremists — to treat them as inherently more repugnant than “mainstream” hawks and nationalists — is not simply doomed to fail. It will, in fact, only enable more violence. Israeli society refused to recognize that Kahanism drew from the rivers of Zionism, rather than the other way around, only to find that it would return to dominate public life. American Jewish organizations are now making the same mistake. They hope that somehow, with just enough petitions or strongly-worded condemnations, they will defeat the scourge of Smotrich — without addressing the ideology and state structures that both encourage his call for genocide, and give him and his successors the power to fulfill it. They are dangerously wrong.

Gaza 2020: How easy it is for the world to delete Palestinian pain by David Hearst

This is Gaza now: a brutal siege of a forgotten people subsisting in conditions predicted to be unlivable by the UN in 2020, a year that is just a few weeks away… As Israeli writer Meron Rapoport has said, Israel’s leaders have long harboured genocidal thoughts about what to do with the enclave that they chased all those refugees into after 1948.
In 1967, former Israeli prime minister Levi Eshkol set up a unit to encourage Palestinians to emigrate. “Precisely because of the suffocation and imprisonment there, maybe the Arabs will move from the Gaza Strip… Perhaps if we don’t give them enough water they won’t have a choice, because the orchards will yellow and wither,” he suggested, according to declassified minutes of cabinet meetings released in 2017.

Gantz Is Running – to The Hague by Odeh Bisharat

It could be that Gantz made a mistake, so it’s important to remind him that we’re talking about running for the prime minister’s seat, and not a mass murder’s competition that lands one a place at The Hague.

… Many other regimes have carried out ethnic cleansing and even genocide, and the world remained silent, because those regimes did not boast about their actions. They killed huge numbers of people, but in their propaganda videos they would display happy children playing in pastoral settings. ISIS, on the other hand, chose to show off. That’s the only difference. And that’s how ISIS managed to unite the entire world against it.

Lawsuit accusing Israel of genocide to be filed in Argentina

“An Argentine lawyer said he will file a lawsuit in federal court in Buenos Aires accusing Israel of crimes against humanity and genocide… the suit will be filed in the coming days in response to Israel’s 50-day operation in Gaza this summer. The suit is in conjunction with the American Association of Jurists… The suit singles out specific Israeli leaders as being responsible both directly and non-directly for the alleged crimes, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz and Likud MK Moshe Feiglin.”
