Palestinian resistance is forcing liberals to see Israel’s apartheid from Ali Abunimah

It’s important that Amnesty has come out and recognised apartheid, but in another article we published at the Electronic Intifada today, by my colleague Maureen Murphy, she points out that although the Amnesty report is really useful, and is really a watershed in terms of international advocacy. And Amnesty goes much further than Human Rights Watch, and B’Tselem, and others in terms of its recommendations. Even then, this report falls short by failing to recognise the settler-colonial context of the Zionist project in Palestine. And settler colonialism is ultimately genocidal. Because, as Maureen writes, the Zionist settlers did not come from Europe with the intent to dominate and persecute Palestinians, and establish an apartheid regime. They came with the intent to take their land and remove them.

“Today we are Nazis,” says member of Israeli Jewish extremist group by Ali Abunimah and Tamara Nassar

In screenshots from the groups posted by Fake Reporter, members talked about types of weapons and made plans for where to meet up in order to attack Palestinians and burn mosques. They engaged in virulent racism and incitement against Palestinians.
The messages were released in the context of recent attacks by extremist Jewish Israelis on Palestinians, their homes and businesses as Israel escalated its attacks on the occupied West Bank and Gaza over the last week.
“We are no longer Jews today,” one user wrote in a Telegram group titled “People from Holon, Bat Yam and Rishon Lezion go out to bring war.”
“Today we are Nazis.”

Israel lobby’s “Death to the Arabs” damage control by Ali Abunimah

“Every evening this week, dozens of young Jews walked around Jerusalem’s city center, chanting ‘Death to Arabs’ and attacking passersby with stones and tear gas,” Israel’s Haaretz newspaper reported on Wednesday. The situation escalated further on Thursday, when more than 100 Palestinians were injured as a result of mob violence provoked by the far-right Jewish group Lehava.

… Cries of “Death to the Arabs” are sadly an all too common phenomenon in Israel. And far from being the sole responsibility of a few fringe extremists, they are the direct result of years of anti-Palestinian incitement and dehumanizing rhetoric by Israeli leaders, from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the country’s top rabbis to other senior politicians and even comedians and pop singers.

Extreme racist and even genocidal hatred of Palestinians is pervasive in Israeli Jewish society, where there exists no significant popular movement to end decades of Israeli military occupation, apartheid and abuse against Palestinians.

Genocide supporter may get top job at Israel Holocaust memorial by Ali Abunimah

The UN Genocide Convention defines genocide as any of a number of inhuman acts “committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such.”
Under the convention, the crime of genocide includes “direct and public incitement to commit genocide.”
If anything fits this description it is Eitam’s record of dehumanizing Palestinians as “evil” and as “animals” and calling for their mass killing and expulsion from their homeland.
Thus, we will soon find out if Israel will be putting a genocidaire in charge of its Holocaust memorial.

Linking to a new Israeli study of DNA collected from an ancient Philistine site in the Ashkelon coastal region, Netanyahu said the study “confirms what we know from the Bible – that the origin of the Philistines is in southern Europe.”.. He went on: “There’s no connection between the ancient Philistines & the modern Palestinians, whose ancestors came from the Arabian Peninsula to the Land of Israel thousands of years later.”
“The Palestinians’ connection to the Land of Israel is nothing compared to the 4,000 year connection that the Jewish people have with the land,” the premiere concluded.

… Ali Abunimah, journalist and co-founder of the Electronic Intifada news website called Netanyahu’s comments a “warning sign of genocide.” “This racial eugenics should be seen as laying the ground for justifying the expulsion of the Palestinian people. It’s a warning sign of genocide. But remember these are the #SharedValues of @EUinIsrael,” he tweeted.

Israeli minister threatens to destroy Gaza “once and for all” by Ali Abunimah

As Israel bombed it dozens of times in the past day, a senior Israeli minister has incited the total destruction of Gaza.

On Tuesday, Israeli army radio tweeted the comments of energy minister Yuval Steinitz, who stated, “I do not rule out the possibility of conquering Gaza and destroying it once and for all.”

… Steinitz’s genocidal language is remarkably common in Israel. Calls for exterminating Palestinians have not disqualified Israeli leaders from the warm embrace of the European Union.

Homeland Insecurity: Palestine’s Refusal to Die Haunts Israeli Colonial Celebrations by Elliott Gabriel

“The Zionist movement was a European-backed colonial movement whose goal was not to coexist with the Palestinian people, but to take their land and to expel them and replace them.”.. On November 29, 1947, the U.N. voted to create separate, independent Arab and Jewish states. “That resolution marked an international blessing for the destruction of Palestine and the expulsion of the Palestinian people,” Abunimah said.

… “Ethnic cleansing can seem abstract, but it functions on the ground through basic Israeli policies,” Carmel said… “This directly translates into human suffering in the form of constant house demolitions, which can happen to a family even for expanding their kitchen… The Nakba is ongoing for these families; they simply lack legal recourse,” Carmel said.

… Palestinians also face denial of their participation in the Israeli economy. Increasingly, local Arabs are no longer sought out, even as a permanent source of cheap and highly exploitable labor. According to William Robinson, the problem poses an ominous dilemma for impoverished Palestinians. “With the globalization of Israel and the Middle East, there has been a mass influx of transnational migrant labor into Israel and the surrounding countries. Filipinos, Sri Lankans, Africans and others work in Israeli agriculture, industry, and services. Palestinian labor is no longer needed, which makes them surplus humanity,” Robinson said. “The only thing Israel needs from them is their land. This subjects the Palestinians to the specter of genocide and constitutes a structural underpinning to the intensification of Israeli apartheid.”

Video: Everyday Israelis express support for genocide by Ali Abunimah

“I think that we need to … kick out the Arabs,” says a young woman who, struggling to express her genocidal thoughts in English, turns to a friend for help. “We need to kill Arabs,” she manages to say in English, as she and her friend giggle.”

EU refuses to condemn Israeli genocide plan by Ali Abunimah

A party with members in Israel’s government has just endorsed a plan to force Palestinians out of their homeland. A prominent Holocaust scholar previously called the plan potentially genocidal and likened the values of its chief proponent to those of the Nazi SS. Yet the European Union, which claims a moral mission to combat extremism, racism and xenophobia, is refusing to condemn it.

“Fuck it, wipe out Gaza,” says spokesman for new EU campaign by Ali Abunimah and Dena Shunra

The European Union has hired an Israeli who advocates genocidal violence against Palestinians as the face of a new promotional campaign. Avishai Ivri appears in a video the EU embassy in Tel Aviv posted on its Facebook page last month…

Ivri was a writer for Latma, a defunct Israeli sketch show that reflected extreme right-wing and racist views, such as depicting migrants and refugees from African states as apes.

But that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

During Israel’s November 2012 attack on Gaza that killed 174 Palestinians, Ivri advocated even more extreme violence.

“Here’s a strategy that hasn’t been tried out yet: 1,000 Arabs killed for each one of our people killed. I think they owe us 5,000 from last week.” he tweeted.

“Fuck it, wipe out Gaza,” Ivri urged during the same attack.
