NGOs sue the Danish state to stop arms exports to Israel by Al-Haq

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

  • Oxfam Denmark, Amnesty International Denmark, Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke (Action Aid Denmark) and the Palestinian human rights organization Al-Haq are suing the Danish National Police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to stop Danish arms exports to Israel.
  • There is a clear risk that weapons and military equipment that Denmark directly and indirectly exports to Israel will be used to commit serious crimes against civilians in Gaza. In doing so, Denmark violates international rules on arms trade and risks becoming complicit in violations of international humanitarian law – including war crimes – and a plausible genocide.

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

  • While across the globe 8 March marks International Women’s Day, for the women of Gaza, it marks five months and one day since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal military campaign. During this time Israel has killed more than 30,800 Palestinians in Gaza, with approximately 9,000 of them being women, as reported by UN Women. Thousands more remain missing or under the rubble. This International Women’s Day, it is crucial to elevate the voices and narratives of Palestinian women and particularly women in Gaza. Their stories stand as a testament to their resilience amidst the ongoing genocide.

Al-Haq and Partners Send Four Written Submissions Prior to the 55th Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council on Al-Haq

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

  • Al-Haq, jointly with partners, submitted four written submissions ahead of the upcoming 55th regular session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council (the Council), which will be held between 26 February and 5 April 2024. Addressing the Council under different agenda items, the four submissions underlined Israel’s ongoing genocide and the escalation of Israeli military attacks in the West Bank, especially on refugee camps; the importance of annually updating the UN database of businesses operating within Israel’s colonial settlement enterprise; the worrying escalation in arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and torture of Palestinians; and Israel’s targeting of Palestinian memory, identity and cultural heritage.
  • Overall, the written submissions urged the Council and its Member States to uphold their legal obligations to prevent, end, and refrain from aiding or assisting the ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, and urgently urge Israel to immediately and unconditionally allow the unimpeded access of fuel, water, food and humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, into the Gaza Strip, as mandated by the International Court of Justice’s provisional measures order. Furthermore, the submissions called for international justice and accountability for Israel’s international crimes, including by recognising and taking effective measures to dismantle Israel’s settler-colonial and apartheid regime imposed over the Palestinian people as a whole; supporting and enabling the exercise of the right of self-determination of the Palestinian people and the return of Palestinian refugees to their ancestral land and homes; and reconstituting the UN Special Committee against Apartheid and the UN Centre against Apartheid.

Palestinian Organizations Welcome Statement by ICC Prosecutor, and Reiterate the Need for Immediate Issuance of Arrest Warrants by Al Mezan, Al-Haq, and Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR)

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

  • Al Mezan, Al-Haq, and Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) welcome the recent statement made by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim A. A. Khan KC, concerning the reported impending expansion of the ground offensive by Israeli forces in Rafah and the recurrent bombardments of the area. Our organizations emphasize that while this statement is significant, the catastrophic conditions faced by 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza demand concrete action… particularly the issuance of arrest warrants against individuals implicated in these crimes. Specifically, we call for the issuance of arrest warrants against the Israeli Prime Minister, who ordered the expansion of the ground invasion into Rafah, the Israeli Defense Minister, and the Chief of Staff of the Israeli military, who are responsible for grave violations of international law.
  • The issuance of arrest warrants is a necessary step towards ensuring justice and accountability for the victims of these crimes, and deterring and preventing the commission of further crimes. We urge the ICC to expedite the process of issuing these warrants and to pursue all necessary measures to hold those responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of genocide accountable for their actions.

Palestinian Organisations Demand Inquiry into UN Genocide Prevention Office’s Inexcusable Failure to Address Israel’s Ongoing Genocide in Gaza by Al-Haq

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

  • Palestinian human rights organizations, including Al-Haq, have penned a letter addressed to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, expressing profound disappointment and calling for an inquiry over the failure of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Ms. Alice Wairimu Nderitu, to fulfil her mandate in addressing the ongoing atrocities perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza. This failure includes neglecting to raise awareness about Israel’s ongoing, four-months-long genocide against Palestinians in Gaza or, at the very least, to the alarming risk of genocide; failing to acknowledge the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling that Israel is plausibly committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, along with the provisional measures ordered for Israel; and refusing to engage meaningfully, meet, or respond to requests from Palestinian human rights organizations.

New Filings in Gaza Genocide Lawsuit: Palestinians Refute Biden Admin Arguments That Court Cannot Review Its Role in Furthering Israel’s Genocide by Center for Constitutional Rights

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

December 23, 2023, New York – Hours after the U.S. abstained on a United Nations Security Council resolution that it had delayed for days seeking to allow humanitarian aid to Gaza, Palestinian organizations and individuals filed a reply last night to the U.S. government’s response to their genocide caseDefense for Children International-Palestine v. Biden. The filing supports the Palestinian plaintiffs’ request that the court immediately order the U.S. to stop supporting Israel’s unfolding genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and opposes the government’s efforts to have the case dismissed.

The Center for Constitutional Rights and co-counsel Van Der Hout LLP submitted detailed, sobering declarations from several of the plaintiffs (linked below) and from Josh Paul, the former high-ranking State Department official who resigned to protest U.S. support for and continued transfer of arms to Israel that would be used to commit human rights abuses and lead to significant civilian casualties in Gaza. The plaintiffs’ declarations describe additional harms and deaths –  including at least 50 members of Al Haq’s Ahmed Abofoul’s extended family – suffered since they filed their complaint in mid-November, underscoring the need for an immediate injunction.
