USyd NTEU Branch President Nick Riemer spoke on the need to rally against the Israeli apartheid state and highlighted the extreme violence Palestinians were met with during the raid despite the deeply calm and personal nature of worship at Al Aqsa. “These attacks that were seen are part of Israel’s rolling, ongoing genocidal Nakba against Palestinian lives. And as these attacks are made more deadly and vicious, we need to intensify our solidarity with Palestinians.” .. Jasmine Al Rawi, USyd SRC Global Solidarity Officer and Student of Palestine member criticised how despite ongoing genocide and apartheid, where homes are demolished and lives are cut short by bans on medical supplies, Israel’s impunity remains the same.

It’s not a conflict; it’s state-sanctioned genocide against Palestine on El Tecolote

PLEASE TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW AND SEND YOUR LETTER TO THE UN OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL ADVISER ON THE PREVENTION OF GENOCIDE AND THE INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT PROSECUTOR.

In the coverage of Israel’s attacks on Palestinians in Sheik Jarrah, in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in occupied Jerusalem, and since the establishment of the Israeli state, major U.S. media outlets have continuously framed Israeli state-sanctioned genocide against Palestinians as the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”… “Israeli-Palestinian Hostilities” from the New York Times. “Surge in Israeli-Palestinian conflict prompts concern…” writes The Boston Globe. “Israeli-Palestinian Violence” declares NPR, all coining the violence Palestinians are experiencing as mutual. This framing of Israel and Palestine in a “conflict” or “crisis” validates the violent genocidal settler-colonialism enacted by the nation-state of Israel and its military through the demonization of Palestine as a complicit aggressor, assuming that they are operating on equal terms. Israel is an internationally funded nation-state, occupying Palestine’s unceded West Bank and Gaza, settling Palestinian land, and forcing native Palestinians out.

My mothers cousin, Omar Al-Kiswani, is the director of Al-Aqsa mosque and on the front lines of resisting settler violence. So if you claim to be my friend and ignore what’s happening in Palestine, you’re quite literally turning a blind eye to the suffering of my family and my people. I wish nothing more than to be with my people right now, but I’ve been banned from entering my own homeland by Zionist settler scum since 2015. Meanwhile just a couple weeks ago, our village Beit iksa was set ablaze by settlers who chanted “may your village burn” An Israeli fire truck came but didn’t put out the fire, they had to wait for a Palestinian fire truck to put it out. They also smashed several car windows and sprayed racist graffiti in our village, the village where my father and all 4 of my grandparents were born in. This is just a snapshot of the last two weeks, for Palestinians who have family back home, these stories are all too familiar. Yet we are some of the only people constantly living in this trauma, sharing information about the attacks our communities withstand, while our neighbors and friends in the U.S. ignore us. I shouldn’t have to draw out these personal connections, but when you ignore Palestinians sharing footage capturing the ongoing genocide of Palestine, you are literally ignoring our families suffering from and resisting zionist colonial violence.

We became half a million Jews in Judea and Samaria [the West Bank] and we will become one million,” Ariel said. “There will be only one state between the river and the sea which is the state of Israel. Unfortunately, some of the areas such as Jerusalem, Sinai, Judea and Samaria [the West Bank], the Golan Heights and the Gaza Strip are not in our hands.” The minister called for imposing “Jewish domination” over Al-Aqsa Mosque, stating that the “utmost goal” is to impose full domination over the holy city.

The State of Israel directly funds various Temple movement activities. Along with funding Temple organizations, the Ministry of Education disseminates their ideas through the educational system…

… The rise in Temple movements’ prominence has been accompanied with an increase in violent Israeli incursions at Al Aqsa, including detaining and attacking the Al Aqsa guards.

Al Aqsa Compound director Sheikh Omar al-Kiswani stated to media that over 700 settlers, “an unprecedented amount” raided the compound for Jerusalem Day last May.

Every year Israel’s far-right settlers parade through Palestinian neighbourhoods, celebrating Israel’s conquest of East Jerusalem in 1967. The settlers call out for the Al Aqsa compound to be destroyed and shout “Mohammad is dead,” “Death to the Arabs” and other statements calling for genocide of Palestinians.

Yisrael Ariel, the chief rabbi of the Temple movement, articulated an apocalyptic end times scenario in 2015.

“[God] is the one who commanded us to go from city to city conquering them, and to impose the seven laws [of the Sons of Noah] throughout the world,” Ariel said.

Ariel added that if Muslims and Christians “raise the flag of [surrender] and say, ‘From now on, there is no more Christianity and no more Islam,’ and the mosques and Christian spires come down,” then they would be allowed to live. “If not,” he warned, “you kill all of their males by sword. You leave only the women.”

“We will conquer Iraq, Turkey [and] we will get to Iran too,” Ariel proclaimed.

Ariel is the founder and head of the Temple Institute, the government-funded group that has published detailed blueprints and a computer animation of what the Temple, to be built over the ruins of al-Aqsa, will look like.

The Temple Institute has received funding from Israel’s education ministry to develop a curriculum to instill “longing for the Temple” in children as young as those attending kindergarten. In 2013, Israel’s mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkatpresented Ariel with an award for his organization’s work.

This genocidal ideology is rooted in religious Zionism and its political wing is represented by the Jewish Home party… This messianic extremism has taken hold in the Likud Party of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well.

This situation cannot go on unchecked. It has reached a dangerous level. There are no borders that are safe anymore. World leaders are required to work together to maintain global justice and world peace. There should be stronger voices holding Israel accountable to its vicious genocide against innocent Palestinians in Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories.
