UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, International Criminal Court Prosecutor, International Court of Justice President: Investigate the Possibility that Israel is Committing the Crime of Genocide Against the Indigenous Palestinian People.
Sarah Ihmoud: “BDS is one such opportunity for feminist praxis. As Israel’s ongoing settler project remains an enactment of genocidal violence against an indigenous people, through technologies of war, capture, and militarized dispossession… Feminist organizing in Palestine has been deeply invested in dismantling structures of settler colonialism and apartheid that place women and queer folk disproportionately in marginal positions. Like in other colonial and genocidal contexts, Israel has targeted the bodies and sexualities of Palestinian women, as symbolic peripheries of the Palestinian nation.”
On May 19, the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) motion passed a motion in solidarity with Palestinian students. It discusses Israel and its acts of violence against Palestinians, such as attacks on residential grounds and mosques. SFSS’ statement included a call to action to “initiate, support, and amplify” Palestinian calls to join BDS campaigns… Palestinian student Lara Radwan said, “Happy to see the SFSS stand on the right side of history as they stop letting businesses profit off of genocide and ethnic cleansing. We all play a part in making a change, and glad to see the SFSS take theirs.”
Colleagues in Palestine have called on solidarity organizations and all people of conscience to ratchet-up solidarity work in the light of what Israeli academic, Ilan Pappe, has termed, ‘incremental genocide’ in Gaza. Most recent developments include the mass shootings of March of Return protestors in Gaza. In the past few months hundreds of unarmed Palestinians in Gaza including medical personnel, journalists and children have been killed for demonstrating for their right to return to their land.
