Various groups protest at Luskin center as UC Regents meeting takes place on Daily Bruin

Protesters from various campus groups demonstrated in front of a meeting of the governing board of the University of California on Wednesday. The UC Board of Regents is meeting at the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center this week to discuss issues such as nonresident tuition increases and the University’s financial operations.

…Mariam Alkhalili, a third-year political science and international affairs student at UC Riverside, said the UC is funding violations of Palestinian human rights by investing in some companies that do business in Israel. “Our tuition dollars should not be used to fund an occupation,” she said. “(There) are victims of genocide; innocent people are getting killed every day.”

Hungarian official: Israel committed genocide in Gaza on Middle East Monitor

Israel committed genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip during its 2014 offensive, Mayor of the Hungarian Municipality of Erpatak, Mihaly Zoltan Orosz, said on Monday.

… The Hungarian Public Prosecution filed a complaint against Orosz, accusing him of “inciting hatred and hostility” after organising a demonstration against the Israeli offensive on Gaza in 2014. Speaking during the hearing, Orosz said that he would not rescind his remarks about the Israeli genocide. The Judge adjourned the hearing to 12 June.

Human rights campaigners are planning protests at Israel’s participation in the FIL Rathbones Women’s 2015 U19 Lacrosse World Championship that starts tomorrow in Edinburgh at the Peffermill sports centre.Campaigners are responding to the Palestinian call for a campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel in support of Palestinian rights… Angus Maclean, of Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, explained the reasons behind the demonstrations. “For 67 years Israel has defied international law and Palestinians are calling on civil society and grassroots organisations to take a stand against ethnic cleansing and genocide. We will be present at each of the matches to protest and send a clear message that Israel’s involvement in this, and any, international sporting event is unacceptable.”

The front line held posters that showed the faces of the nine victims — Susie Jackson; Sharonda Coleman-Singleton; DePayne Doctor; Ethel Lance; Daniel Simmons Sr.; Clementa Pinckney; Cynthia Graham Hurd; and Tywanza Sanders.

Texas: Israel Block Party sparks annual protest
