  • Our brothers and sisters in Gaza, we have heard your demands. We are doing every possible thing to end the bloodshed, and we must do more. We are fighting to stop the genocidal war on you, to call for sanctions, to lift the blockade that denies you life, to support your return to your homes, to confront complicity with the regime and to resist its murderous impulses. We are mobilizing to reject a return to the normalized massacres and suffocating siege against our people, which were the status quo before this genocide began.

Indigenous Solidarity with Palestine by The Red Nation

It has been heartbreaking and unsurprising to see the colonial powers in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe line up behind this genocide. Israeli settler colonialism, apartheid, and occupation are only possible because of international support.

The settler states that dispossess and occupy our lands support Israel in dispossessing and occupying Palestine.

We see and feel the strength of Palestinian families in the face of the quotidian violence of the Israeli apartheid regime. Colonized peoples have the right to defend themselves and to resist colonial violence. We support Palestinian liberation and their right as an oppressed people to resist colonialism and genocide.

Let’s Keep Mobilizing to Stop Genocide: If Not Now, When? by Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC)

We need to keep the pressure on! An urgent ceasefire and life-saving aid are immediately required to stop this genocide, followed by enacting international law measures to hold Israel accountable for this genocide, as well as 75 years of apartheid and settler-colonialism against Indigenous Palestinians.

5 more actions YOU can take to make this happen:

  1. Pressure parliaments and governments to call for a UNGA session to debate the US veto and call for ceasefire; life-saving aid into Gaza; and UN protection for Palestinians in Gaza; ICC and other investigations into Israel’s war crimes and crimes against humanity; and military embargo.
  2. Continue mobilizing loud, creative and peaceful actions with a cross-section of civil society and bring with you our messaging cards to amplify Palestinian demands. Make sure your messaging is strategic and morally consistent.
  3. Call on influential writers, authors, sports and cultural figures to join the call for solidarity with the Palestinian people.
  4. Mobilize institutional pressure campaigns (including boycotts or divestment) against Israeli and international companies and banks that are complicit in Israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity, including apartheid.
  5. Mobilize your community, trade union, association, church, social network, student government/union, city council, cultural center, or other organizations to declare themselves Apartheid Free Zones (AFZ), ending all relations with apartheid Israel and companies/institutions that are complicit in its system of oppression, as was done against apartheid South Africa.

We need to keep mobilizing urgently to stop this genocide. If not now, when?

Palestinians are Native Americans, not ‘Red Indians’: it’s time to liberate our language by Dr Ramzy Baroud

For this generation to succeed in reclaiming the struggle for justice, they must also reclaim a unifying discourse, not only to reconnect their own fragmented communities throughout historic Palestine, but also to re-establish solidarity lines of communication across the globe.

I say “re-establish”, because Palestine was a common denominator among many national and indigenous struggles in the Global South. This was not a random outcome. Throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s, fierce wars of liberation were fought across continents, leading in most cases to the defeat of traditional colonial powers and, in the likes of Cuba, Vietnam and Algeria, to true decolonisation. With Palestine being a compounded case of western imperialism and Zionist settler-colonialism, the Palestinian cause was embraced by numerous national struggles. It was, and remains, a raw example of western-supported ethnic cleansing, genocide, apartheid and hypocrisy, as well as awe-inspiring indigenous resistance.

Toward Indigenous Ultimate Permanence: Examining Settler Colonialism and Genocidal Elimination in Canada and Israel by Molly Barbara Cop Rasmussen

This thesis critically compares technologies of settler colonialism and genocidal elimination in Canada and Israel. Keeping with the argument that recognizes settler colonialism as an entity that destroys to replace, genocide is taken up as a theoretical framing device that addresses comparable methods of both the material and discursive elimination of Indigenous peoples in Canada and Palestinians within and outside of Israel. At the same time as the two settler states continue to commit genocide against the original inhabitants of the lands they have stolen, Canada and Israel utilize similar self promotion strategies that present themselves as humanitarian and democratic, a specific tool used to wash away the sins of settler colonialism and genocide. While no two settler regimes are exactly the same, this thesis identifies key structural similarities between the two states and makes the case for an international solidarity movement rooted in principles of anti-colonialism and Indigenous ultimate permanence.

Black Australia to Palestine: solidarity in decolonial struggle by Eugenia Flynn and Tasnim Sammak

Beneath the status quo friendship between Australia and Israel, Black Australians and Palestinians are linked through a shared history of struggle against settler colonialism, genocide and oppression. Both lands were colonised by the British, and the legitimacy of both states – Australia and Israel – are recognised under international law while colonisation is simultaneously not regarded as a crime.

Long Island, NY demands: ‘End all aid to apartheid Israel!’ by Sean Connolly

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

On May 23, hundreds gathered in Garden City, Long Island, New York for a day of action in support of the Palestinian people, organized by a broad coalition… The day of solidarity took place just two days after a ceasefire temporarily halted Israeli aerial bombardments on the besieged Gaza Strip. Over 250 people were killed by Israel’s airstrikes in 11 days, including 66 children, and 2,000 were wounded… A key demand of the day of action was that the U.S. government end its military aid to Israel. “As United States citizens we cannot allow our taxpayer money to be used to fund genocide,” said Tela Trogue of the Shinnecock Nation, the Indigenous nation of eastern Long Island.

Solidarity between Palestinians and Indigenous Activists has Deep Roots by Marion Kawas

The BDS National Committee (BNC) released a powerful statement at the same time as diaspora Palestinians in Vancouver sent greetings to the daily #WetsuwetenStrong protest in that city. Both emphasized the brave and tireless resistance of the indigenous defenders, with the BNC noting that Palestinians owe them “a great debt for teaching us how to resist settler colonialism generation after generation through your powerful resistance, grace and indomitable spirit”.

But these strong expressions of Palestinian support are not new and have a long and rich history.

… In 2012, there was a strong statement of support from Palestinians with the IdleNoMore movement and indigenous rights. Multiple organizations and individuals signed on to show the depth of support and understanding between the two struggles. They said in part:

“We recognize the deep connections and similarities between the experiences of our peoples – settler colonialism, destruction and exploitation of our land and resources, denial of our identity and rights, genocide and attempted genocide.”

Santa Fe’s Palestine Murals Remind Us This Is Stolen Land by Elena Ortiz

The images on that stucco wall show the truth of settler colonialism and the effects it has on Indigenous people. They were put there to show solidarity with our Palestinian relatives in the face of brutal occupation; to illuminate injustice and shed light on this nation’s complicity in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people.
