The Brussels Tribunal also Calls: Write to UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide

Not to be mistaken with the Russell Tribunal, The Brussels Tribunal wrote the following letter to the  UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide:

20 July, 2014

To UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide

Gaza – 16 July death on the beach – funeral procession. 17 July, 2014 - The 4 boys slaughtered on the Gaza beach whilst playing football
Gaza – 16 July death on the beach – funeral procession. 17 July, 2014 – The 4 boys slaughtered on the Gaza beach whilst playing football

We are witnessing genocide in Gaza, Iraq, Syria, we are witnessing the use of illegal weapons, the bombings of hospitals, schools, a home for the disabled, the trauma of children, ethnic cleansing on a massive scale. We have heard the statements re Gaza of a desire that mothers are killed so no more children will be born. WHY are you silent? The UN has lost all credibility. Ban’s “concern” and “regret” are weasel words, pathetic – but you, “Office of the Special Advisor on the Prevention of Genocide” leave one speechless at your silence. Shame on you.

SOMALIA: Deputy PM strongly condemns Isreali atrocities against the People of Palestine in Gaza

Mogadishu (RBC) Somalia Federal Government strongly condemned today the atrocities committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in Gaza as the world remained silent on the ongoing genocide in the West Bank…

“The ongoing genocide committed by Israel against our brothers in Palestine is something that we can not accept.  Killing innocent people of women and children, targeting hospitals, mosques and schools is something very hateful,” Mr Hersi said. “We share the pain with Palestinians, as we strongly say that Somalia is very upset about what is going in Gaza,” he added.

Venezuela condemns Israeli ‘genocide’ and ‘extermination’

President Nicolas Maduro has maintained the foreign policy of his firebrand predecessor Hugo Chavez, who was popular in the Arab world and broke relations with Israel after accusing it of “holocaust” for its 2009 offensive in Gaza. Israel’s latest attacks have “initiated a higher phase of its policy of genocide and extermination with the ground invasion of Palestinian territory, killing innocent men, women, girls and boys,” a Venezuelan government statement said…

Venezuela called for the United Nations‘ human rights body to meet and condemn Israel. “Venezuela also rejects the cynical campaigns trying to condemn both parties equally, when it is clear you cannot morally compare occupied and massacred Palestine with the occupying state, Israel, which also possesses military superiority and acts on the margins of international law.”

Article about Genocide and Israel: Gaza Needs More than Condemnation

It seems, however, and again, as Ilan Pappe notices, that even horrendous crimes, such as the genocide in Gaza, are treated as “discrete events, unrelated to events in the past and dissociated from any ideology or system.” Supporters of Palestine must always relate today’s massacres to the original sin of colonization of the land which Israel has claimed for its own and the dispossession of its indigenous people.

South African protest against bombing in Gaza

“… combining legal and illegal means to free themselves. Because what is happening there is a genocide. What is happening there is a plan by Israel to wipe out every Palestinian in this world. So comrades, by persuasion, if necessary, the ambassador of Israel must leave South Africa…”

Incremental Genocide: An Interview with Ilan Pappe by Malihe Razazan

The Israelis were happy with the PA controlling the Gaza strip. So this was a kind of an open prison, if you want. But still a prison. But in 2005, the inmates- if one can call it this way, using the same metaphors of the prison- had enough, and rebelled against this strangulation and ghettoisation by starting a resistance movement. And the Israelis turned the open air prison into a maximum security prison, which they bombed from the outside, whenever they feel like, or whenever the rebellion is too much for them. And because the can’t divide the Gaza strip into areas A, B, and C, as they do in the West Bank, they can’t hope that the Palestinians would move to Egypt as they hoped that they would move from the West Bank to Jordan. And they know, I’m sure they know, they are fully conscience that if they don’t allow these people to be united with the rest of Palestine, if they do not check out, expel all these people, they leave them at their mercy in this huge prison which is called “the Gaza Strip”. And once this prison rebels, they are the strongest army in the area, if not in the world, they use the weapons that were made- originally- for fighting brigades of tanks and hundreds of thousands of soldiers. They use it on an urban space [equivalent to] a small city in America. So this is how it becomes genocidal.

“There’s women and children being killed at this very moment in time. There’s families being butchered. It’s a mass genocide that’s happening in Gaza- in Palestine. I’m out here today just to peacefully let a few people know what is happening and what we can do.”

Stop the genocide of Palestinians and Rohingyas by MERHROM

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

To Michelle Gyles-McDonnough, UN Resident Coordinator for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei

The Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organisation Malaysia (MERHROM) would like to draw your attention in regards to the recent attack on both Palestinians and Rohingyas by Israel and Myanmar during the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.

We strongly condemn such attack as many innocent people have died especially children and women. We could not accept such act as it contradicts the International Laws and International Conventions.

Both Palestinians and Rohingyas faced continuous Genocide since the 1940s. We experienced the same critical moment where we face continuous attack from both regimes. Unfortunately the United Nations did not take any appropriate measures to stop the longstanding genocide that caused death to thousands of Palestinians and Rohingyas.
