It’s important that Amnesty has come out and recognised apartheid, but in another article we published at the Electronic Intifada today, by my colleague Maureen Murphy, she points out that although the Amnesty report is really useful, and is really a watershed in terms of international advocacy. And Amnesty goes much further than Human Rights Watch, and B’Tselem, and others in terms of its recommendations. Even then, this report falls short by failing to recognise the settler-colonial context of the Zionist project in Palestine. And settler colonialism is ultimately genocidal. Because, as Maureen writes, the Zionist settlers did not come from Europe with the intent to dominate and persecute Palestinians, and establish an apartheid regime. They came with the intent to take their land and remove them.
