Iowans join global protests against Palestinians’ expulsion from their East Jerusalem homes on the Des Moines Register

“In Arabic, ‘Nakba’ means ‘catastrophe’ — tomorrow will mark the 73rd anniversary of the Nakba, referring to the mass expulsion of Palestinians at the creation of Israel” on May 15, 1948, said Berina Smajlovic, 31, of Des Moines, a local organizer. “Tomorrow marks over seven decades that the world has turned a blind eye (to genocide, ethnic cleansing and apartheid) … the Nakba continues.”
