A Lethal Virus Called Israeli Occupation: Another Somber Easter in Occupied Palestine by Raouf Halaby

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Palestine’s population in the West Bank and Gaza is over 5 million people. As previously stated, since the year 2000, over 10,000 Palestinians have been brutally murdered by Israel’s army and settlers, funded exclusively with hard earned U.S. tax dollars. To extrapolate, that means that between the year 2000 and 2020,  660,00 American citizens would have been murdered.
Would we allow such a genocide?

Gareth Smith, Byron Bay: Extremely simplistic account of Israel and Palastinian talks on The Echo

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

When Palestinians protested, 21 were gunned down by the Israeli occupation forces, and the heart of Hebron, Shuhada Street, was closed down to all but Jews. To this day it remains closed, and its shop and home doors are welded shut. Netanyahu told the illegal settlers at the shrine that his political party, Likud, is the party of Baruch Goldstein!
However, this genocidal attitude is not confined to Netanyahu and Likud. Take for example the mass rally in Tel Aviv (April, 2016) where thousands of Israelis bestowed hero status on Israeli soldier Elor Azaria who had murdered an injured Palestinian. Jewish reporter, Dan Cohen, tweeted ‘Crowd chants “Elor the hero” and “death to Arabs”. This seems more like a celebration of murder than anything’.

How does the Israeli Military Censor Impact Our News Coverage? by Hanna Kawas

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Here is a just-released open letter that demonstrates how CBC’s coverage, and their justification of such biased reporting, is both “unacceptable and disingenuous”.
… We would all do well to take a lesson in morality, humanity and objectivity regarding the Palestinian genocide, from archbishop Desmond Tutu, the renowned fighter against South African apartheid and racism, who said:

“Those who turn a blind eye to injustice actually perpetuate injustice. If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”

No, life during the coronavirus isn’t like Gaza by Nada Elia

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Another key difference lies in the fact that nobody blames Seattle, or the Bay Area, for bringing the virus onto itself.  In the good-guy-bad-guy binary, COVID-19 is the bad guy, and people getting sick are the innocent good guys, who do not deserve to die. Even if they have been irresponsible, even if they have traveled, and partied, and hugged, and not washed their hands.  The population of Gaza, on the other hand, is often presented as having somewhat brought the siege upon itself. Despite Israel’s violation of international law and the human rights of Palestinian refugees, Israel is still, in the eyes of many, “the good guy” defending itself from the Palestinians.  We still hear, over and over again, that the real reason Gaza is under a siege that has been accurately described as incremental genocide is “Hamas.” As if, if it weren’t for Hamas, Israel would allow the refugees to return to their stolen homes and lands.

Rachel Corrie Symbolizes censorship in US media: American politician on MEHR News Agency

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

In an interview with Mehr News Agency, American politician and director Art Olivier noted that Rachel Corrie was the symbol of US media censorship and a reflection of Israel’s inhumane character.
“Regardless of the moral and humane significance of what Rachel did, she awakened American conscience to take a fresh look at world events which lead to the massacre and genocide of innocent people with the interference of its leaders and the Israeli policies.”

Situation in the State of Palestine by Legal Representative of Persecution Victims, Katherine Gallagher

As the alternate formulation for the crime of aggression makes clear – with the jurisdictional provisions that for State referrals or proprio motu investigations inter alia States Parties can opt out of accepting the Court’s jurisdiction over aggression by that State Party, and that the Court cannot exercise jurisdiction over non-States Party’s nationals or territory – States knew how to limit the Court’s jurisdiction vis-à-vis non-State Party nationals if they wanted; they wanted no such limitation for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Non-member States – including those who objected to the text of article 12(2) – are also on notice that the Court is vested with jurisdiction over nationals of non-member States for conduct that occurs on the territory of a State Party…
Article 12(2) of the Statute states clearly that the Court can exercise its jurisdiction over the crimes enumerated in article 5 when there exists a “special link” with the crime. The territoriality principle is one of the most widely accepted principles of international law. The construction of article 12(2) makes clear that the exercise of the Court’s jurisdiction is not limited to either the territory of its Member States nor the nationals of such States; the ICC can exercise jurisdiction over the national of a State Party who commits a crime specified in article 5 of the Statue on the territory of a non-Member State when other preconditions are met, and likewise can exercise jurisdiction over nationals of non-Member States when they commit an article 5 crime on the territory of a Member State.

Apeirogon: Another colonialist misstep in commercial publishing by Susan Abulhawa

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

There is an implicit parity, you see? All fear is the same, all violence is the same, all insecurity is the same. The Oglala Sioux father tells the writer how he was able to see white humanity for the first time through this friendship. The white man tells him the same about Indigenous humanity.

And just like that, the genocidal engine of American colonialism, which, together with slavery, propelled its entire economy, becomes just a big misunderstanding, a problem to be solved by dialogue, empathy, and the simple understanding that, as McCann quotes his Palestinian protagonist’s epiphany: “They have families, too.”

Substitute Palestinian for Oglala Lakota, Palestine for Pine Ridge Reservation, and Israelis for white settlers (although that does not need changing), and you have, in a nutshell, Colum McCann’s much-touted, highly anticipated novel, which may well become a blockbuster film.
