The Rohingya: Southeast Asia’s Palestinians by Nada Elia

This is despite the fact that the UN’s own definition of genocide would incriminate Israel. Additionally, Israel has maintained its Jewish supremacy against the “demographic threat” posed by the Palestinian people through a violent military occupation, punctuated by episodes of all-out wars against the Gaza Strip. It describes these episodes as “mowing the lawn”, a sanitised expression that erases the indiscriminate violence against the two million mostly-civilian refugees trapped in one of the most densely populated areas in the world. Myanmar stripped the Rohingya of their citizenship in 1982, and has since engaged in episodic attacks against this community, repeatedly forcing them to flee into neighboring countries, with harrowing stories of murder, rape and torched villages. Myanmar’s official position is that the Rohingya are originally from Bangladesh, and it refers to them as “Bengalis,” just as Israel would have the Palestinians be “southern Syrians,” (as Golda Meir put it) or “Jordanian,” and refers to them as “Arab,” rather than Palestinian.

Activists in Buenos Aires hang posters of Netanyahu in Nazi uniform on Palestine News Network

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Pro-Palestinian activists in Buenos Aires hung posters of Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in the Hitler’s Schutzstaffel  Nazi uniform prior to his visit to Argentina. The signs had pictures of  Netanyahu under the words “Wanted for crimes against human rights and the genocide of the Palestinian people”… Argentina is Netanyahu’s first stop on a multi-state tour to Latin America, as he will be the first Israeli  Prime minister to visit Latin America.

UNCTAD Assistance to the Palestinian People: Developments in the Economy of the Occupied Palestinian Territory

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.
Despite the the United Nations‘ admission earlier this year that Gaza has in fact been unliveable for years, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development‘s latest report is somewhat ambiguous as to wether they are warning of the “impending” unliveability of Gaza, or if Gaza is unliveable already and they are setting a new goal to achieve liveability by 2020. Nevertheless, we find UNCTAD’s findings to be in congruence with article II.c of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, “Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part”:
2017 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem; the longest occupation in recent history. For the Palestinian people, these were five decades of de-development, suppressed human potential and denial of the basic human right to development, with no end in sight.
… UNCTAD (2015) emphasized that for Gaza to be a liveable place in 2020, enormous reconstruction efforts were urgently needed in sectors such as health, education, energy, water and sanitation. However, the humanitarian and economic situation has instead worsened since then. According to the World Bank, Gaza’s economic performance over the past two decades has been the worst in the world.
… One of the harshest consequences of occupation is an unemployment rate that is persistently among the highest in the world. In 2016, unemployment remained extremely high, at 18 per cent in the West Bank, 42 per cent in Gaza and 27 per cent in the Occupied Palestinian Territory; more than twice the regional average (ILO, 2017; World Bank, 2017). However, as high as the official rate of unemployment is, it does not fully reflect the real depth of the problem and the attendant economic suffering and waste of human resources… If the risky jobs in Israel and settlements did not exist, the unemployment rate in the West Bank would be more than 36 per cent, not much higher than the 42 per cent observed in Gaza. That is, without the problematic and vulnerable employment in Israel and settlements, unemployment in the West Bank would be nearly as high as the extremely high level in Gaza. Therefore, despite the conspicuously worse conditions in Gaza, it is crucial that with regard to the labour market, conditions in the West Bank are no less grim than conditions in Gaza. The entire economy of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, in the West Bank or Gaza, is stifled and stripped of its capacity to produce jobs.

‘Israeli’ hummus is theft, not appropriation by Steven Salaita

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

State involvement in the pilfer of Palestinian food illustrates that we shouldn’t reduce the issue to individual consumption. It’s a systematic effort to validate settler colonisation.

It’s no shock, then, that Palestinians and their neighbours get salty whenever hearing the phrase “Israeli hummus.” Using Arabic food as a symbol of Zionist identity hands over the day-to-day victuals of the native to the coloniser. It’s a project of erasure, a portent of nonexistence, a promise of genocide.

No state that destroys olive groves and poisons the environment has a right to claim the objects of sustenance harvested for centuries by other people.

Changing the narrative, from BDS to antifa by Nada Elia, September 2017

Today, as anti-fascist protesters are described by the mainstream as “violent thugs,” and as Americans are being told that racism is part of the fabric of this country and can therefore never be completely eliminated, the struggle for Palestinian rights offers an alternative vision: we don’t have to accept injustice, even when the system is set up, has always been set up, to perpetuate it.  We may be called terrorists, “thugs,” our tactics and strategies may be unpopular, but we can prevail, and rather than settle for “pacification” through extreme oppression, we can aspire to genuine peace—an outcome of justice and equality.  After all, Israel, just like the US, is a country founded on genocide and settler-colonialism, with the aim of establishing and maintaining the superiority of one perceived ethnicity.  And if we can question and challenge that fundamental injustice in one country, we can question and challenge it in another.

Selective Outrage And The Damnable Jewish Silence On Gaza by Tom Pessah

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

One of the authors of the platform related the use of the word to the history of black activism in the U.S., such as the group entitled “We Charge Genocide” which opposes police violence in Chicago. The Jews of Color Caucus of JVP embraced the platform and recognized the multiple meanings of the word “genocide”. But apart from them, the reaction of Jewish American organizations was overwhelmingly negative.

… A year since the controversy, where is the outrage? Is the word “genocide” worse than the actual death of babies and adult patients from completely preventable causes? When will the same Jewish American organizations raise the alarm about Israel’s responsibility for the lethal conditions in Gaza? And how many will die by then?

Debunking the myths of Israel/Palestine by Kim Bullimore

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Settler colonial societies are a distinct type of imperialist formation, which are premised on the racist elimination of the indigenous population through various means, including ethnic cleansing, genocide and/or assimilation.

Unlike other forms of colonialism that centre on the exploitation of resources, settler colonialism is primarily concerned with the control of territory and the elimination of the indigenous population in order to replace it with a settler population. As the late Australian academic and leading settler-colonial theorist, Patrick Wolfe, notes: “settler colonialism destroys to replace”.

Before, during and after Israel’s foundation, the Zionist movement sought to control as much of historic Palestine as possible, establishing a permanent settler population by eliminating and replacing the indigenous Palestinian Arab population.
