End EU funding to Israel – Ní Riada call on Palestine News Network

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada has called for the ending of all EU funding to Israel. “Israel must be completely excluded from receiving any funding for research and development,” she said. “Every penny that they have received under the research and development scheme, which they have egregiously abused, makes the EU complicit in each and every murder Israel has carried out since 2000. That’s over 10,000 Palestinians. More than 2000 of them children. The EU’s Horizon 2020 is the biggest research and development programme in the world, with €80billion dedicated to it since 2014. Israel is allowed to take part in the programme on the basis of the EU-Israel association agreement, signed in 2000. An outrageous agreement that we warned two decades would only give legitimacy to Israel’s campaign of genocide.

Pro-Palestine activists reject ‘threatening’ behaviour accusation on Middle East Monitor

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Regev, explained human rights activists, “has a long history of excusing, apologising and justifying [Israel’s] murder, torture and genocide as well as land theft from the indigenous population of Palestine.” They accused the library — which appears only to have disclosed Regev’s attendance after the event, fearing public outrage — of going “against everything the Linen Hall has stood for” and demanded an investigation into how the Israeli Ambassador was allowed to address the community in Belfast in such an “underhanded” way.

What Man Can Do To Man by Evelyn McClafferty

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

The Gaza Strip, a recurring flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, is home to one and a half million Palestinians. They are living in a land regarded by a significant number in the international human rights community to be illegally under Israeli military control. According to the United Nations, close to 20,000 homes have been destroyed in Gaza, including almost 500 schools. Dearbhla describes the situation there as a “slow drip genocide”.

Poem: Gaza Genocide by Margaret O’Driscoll

Four innocent little children
Seen on a beach as they play
Moments later on stretchers
Their limp little bodies lay
In the living hell of Gaza
Where medics openly cried
Countless children killed
In a litany of genocide

Derry Journal: Sinn Féin MEP, Martina Anderson denied access to Gaza

“The Israeli Government continue to oppress the Palestinian people by attacking them in the economic, cultural and political sphere’s, yet we remain resolute in our will to bring this to the attention of the rest of the world, which is precisely, why MEPs are being denied the opportunity to witness for themselves the genocide that was committed in Gaza.”

The Irish Times: Internationalising the conflict

In withholding $127 million in Palestinian Authority (PA) customs revenues from the authority, as retaliation for its application to join the International Criminal Court(ICC), the Israeli government has once again dangerously escalated tensions… The Palestinians may also have difficulty in making the case that, however reprehensible, the Gaza killings rise to the ICC prosecution threshold for genocide or war crimes, of “unimaginable atrocities that deeply shock the conscience of humanity”. Are they a deliberate strategy or the byproducts of a misguided but “legitimate” war? These are legitimate questions and Israel should prepare to answer them instead of taking revenge on those who ask them.

Gaza Action Ireland: “Israel’s deliberate targeting of schools, hospitals, farms, the electricity plant and so much of the infrastructure required for basic living, make it an imperative that the UN conduct an enquiry as to whether Israel is committing the act of genocide against the Palestinian people.”

8 October, 2014

To the Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, for the attention of Mr. Adama Dieng, and Ms. Jennifer Welsh:

While your statement that ‘the ongoing Israeli operations in Gaza’ could ‘demonstrate disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force by the Israeli Defence Forces’ is to be welcomed, your drawing an equivalence between Palestinian resistance groups and the Israeli military is most problematic and indeed contradicts the right to resist as enshrined in international law.

It is imperative that the United Nations do all in its power to end the illegal, immoral Israeli blockade of Gaza which is strangling everyday life there. Even outside of the murderous attacks such as that which we have just witnessed, the siege causes extreme damage to the entire infrastructure of Gaza, it impacts health, education, nutrition, farming, fishing, employment, culture, trade, every aspect of life. How can the UN stand by while this continues? It is an affront to humanity.

This summer’s attack on Gaza, the third such military assault in a six years, caused barbaric loss of life, with over 2,100 Palestinians dead, around 500 of whom were children, thousands were maimed, hundreds of thousands made homeless, more than 87 families were completely obliterated, wiped from the civil register. The pain and trauma is immeasurable, the destruction catastrophic. Homes, schools, universities, hospitals, mosques, farms, factories, the electricity plant were destroyed. It was a criminal and murderous few weeks, and there cannot be impunity for such war crimes.
Israel’s deliberate targeting of schools, hospitals, farms, the electricity plant and so much of the infrastructure required for basic living, make it an imperative that the UN conduct an enquiry as to whether Israel is committing the act of genocide against the Palestinian people.

While the focus of this letter has been on Gaza, the ethnic cleansing of so much of the West Bank, the constant killing of Palestinians, the apartheid regime they are subjected to, also demand that the spotlight be put on Israel for its crimes and that finally some concrete action is taken to protect the Palestinian people and uphold their inalienable rights.

Yours sincerely,

Zoë Lawlor and Mags O’Brien,
Co-ordinators Gaza Action Ireland

EU Delegation: Israel has committed genocide

The delegation, which includes 13 members of the European Parliament, has called on the EU to break diplomatic ties with Israel and implement sanctions against Israel because of the war crimes it has committed against the Palestinian people.

“I don’t think it is too strong a word, not when you think of how genocide is described; it’s described as the partial or the whole destruction of people; and what we are seeing happen in Gaza, in Palestine, is the destruction of Palestinians,” Martina Anderson, an Irish member of the European Parliament
