SUPER UW condemns Jackson School’s speaker, Alon Tal on The Daily

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

By advancing its discriminatory work within the JNF and GZA, Israel aims to divert attention away from their acts of genocide and war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories under the guise of environmentalism and sustainability. Greenwashing is when ethnic cleansing is masqueraded as environmental action, and Israel has attempted to rebrand their war crimes through promoting their so-called “green” organizations at conferences around the world. The absence of Palestine past, present, and future in Alon Tal’s extensive work reveals clearly that his vision and Israel’s green policies are nothing but, what Jasbir Puar called, “Israel’s project of rehabilitation through the spatial, affective, and corporeal debilitation of Palestine.” It is imperative to understand that social justice remains a core of environmental justice, and that the framing of environmental issues can never be separated from indigenous struggles for land, resources, and decolonization.

Vanishing Palestine by Lila Sharif

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Palestine’s landscape becomes the exclusive property of Israeli state bureaucracy and Jewish settlement. Through legal measures, genocide is embedded in the very architecture of Israeli settler- colonial occupation in ways that make impossible Palestinian claims to land. The “off limits” status of Palestinian lands also manifests within architectures of surveillance and confinement, as biopolitical forms of genocide.
… as a settler- colonial power, Israel’s implmentation of direct and indirect structures of genocide ranges from outlaw-ing the word nakbah in historical textbooks and colloquial discourse, to providing a Palestinian homeowner one week to demolish their own home or be imprisoned and fined, to eliminating any trace of Palestinian life in areas like Jabal Abu- Ghneim. For Shehadeh, Israeli “law” meant that members of his family legally did not exist
… The eco- occupation of Palestine thus extends beyond spectacular massacres to mundane forms of genocide vis- à- vis the regulation and monitoring of Palestinian land and biopolitics. As a result of these measures, “life is lived on threads” in such a way that is obscured by the regimes of legality where the management of bodies masquerade as due processes that render Palestinian lifeways and landways “off limits.

Israel, Palestine and ‘Greenwashing’ by Robert Fantina

In the past few decades, at least 280,000 olive trees have been intentionally destroyed in Palestine by Israel; an estimated 250,000,000 pine trees have been planted, some financed by well-meaning but uninformed people, but most by the Israeli government. It is likely that most of the people around the world who have sent money to have them planted are unaware of their real purpose; who is going to think of genocide, when planting a tree in memory of a loved one?
