Opinion: Israel, India & UN vote on The Hindu

India has missed a golden opportunity to be a champion of humanity (“Netanyahu called up Modi on eve of vote”, July 5 and “India keeps away from vote against Israel in U.N.”, July 4). What is happening in Gaza is genocide, where innocent people have been and are being killed with impunity, and with the backing of the West. It may be an open secret that India depends on Israel for its defence preparedness but that does not mean that we should sacrifice our self-esteem and shy away from doing our duty towards humanity. India’s decision is plain shameful.

Hypocrisy is not a four letter word by Tariq A. Al-Maeena

In its short history, the [International Criminal] Court has dealt with crimes of aggression primarily in some countries in Africa.  Despite repeated calls, it has continued to ignore calls for investigations into crimes committed by Israelis against Palestinians.  It has remained mysteriously silent about the massacres of the residents of Sabra and Shatila and the butchery of civilians in Jenin crafted by Ariel Sharon the Israeli premier at the time, followed by the public display of the genocide of the women and children of Gaza at the behest of the current Israeli premier, Benjamin Netanyahu.

PM Modi Visit To Israel: ‘Sky Is The Limit’ by Seema Mustafa

Reports suggest that India bought $662 million worth of arms from Israel during the first six months after PM Modi came to power, and that experts point out is more than the total value of Israel’s defence exports to India in the last three years… just after Israel started its Operation Protective Edge in Gaza, that drew worldwide condemnation, the Indian Foreign Office issued a statement against the loss of civilian life in Gaza but compensating this with concern over “cross border provocations resulting from rocket attacks” that was the Israeli justification for the attack that was described as ‘genocide’ even in sections of the western media.

The government blocked and rejected a parliamentary resolution moved by the Opposition to condemn the Israeli attack on the Palestinians. In the midst of all this political heat there was PM Modi tweeting Hanukah greetings in Hebrew, and congratulating Netanyahu “my friend Bibi” on his re-election.

@YouMeShisha: “#GazaUnderAttack yet the world leaders choose to turn a blind eye. This isn’t an attack….its genocide. Pray for the Palestinians.”

ISM: Surviving in Gaza’s caravan houses by Miguel Hernández

The family El Najjar was expelled during the Nakba from the Palestinian village of Salamah. This village was the subject of a total ethnic cleansing by the Zionist colonizers.

Nowadays just ten houses remain from the almost 2000 that formed the village. In its place today we can find the Tel Aviv suburb known as Kfar Shalem.

Refugees since 1948, many of them established themselves in Khuza’a, a peasant village in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. For the last eight months a great part of the family has been living in caravans, as more than 45 homes belonging to the El Najjar family were bombed during the 2014 massacre… Ironically, these caravans have been provided by the UK government. The same country that colonized Palestine for 26 years and later on handed it over to the Zionists, opening the doors to 67 years of land theft, occupation and genocide.”

From Gaza to Gaza Camp: The Never-Ending Nakba by Johnny Barber

The Israeli state still clings to the myth of “A land without a people, for a people without a land,” and deny the Nakba took place, just as many Americans still deny an indigenous genocide in “our” country. Zochrot, an Israeli NGO, has identified and mapped every destroyed Palestinian village and town in order to reeducate the Israeli public. Their message is largely ignored…

The Nakba did not end in 1948. It is an ongoing process of marginalization and erasure. Although Israelis may deny their history, the people of Gaza Camp cling to their memories of Palestine like a lifeline. The children have absorbed the stories of their elders to their very core. If you ask them where they are from, they’ll tell you, “I am from Beersheba, I am Palestinian.” The connection to home is how they claim their dignity.

Netanyahu’s ‘Genocidal’ Cabinet Promises More Conflict, Isolation For Israel by Joe Catron

“The new Israeli cabinet is a sure-fire recipe for genocide and a more rapid ethnic cleansing of Palestine,” Refaat Alareer, a writer and literature professor at the Islamic University of Gaza, said. “At least half a dozen of the cabinet members have called openly and proudly for genocide against Palestinians and/or opposed the establishment of a Palestinian state,” he added… If Ya’alon contemplates genocide, as his statements indicate, some of his coalition partners do not seem to think it can come fast enough…”

People’s tribunals, and the roots of civil society justice by Richard Falk

Most recently, in September 2014, in response to the Israeli attack on Gaza, given the name Operation Protective Edge, the Russell Foundation convened an event in Brussels in which a jury of conscience listened to evidence, and particularly considered charges of ‘genocide’ put forward by critics of the attack…

It should also be observed that the Brussels Tribunal failed to uphold the most serious charge leveled against Israel in relation to Protective Edge, that the massive assault carried out against the defenseless civilian population of Gaza constituted genocide. On the basis of the evidence presented, the jury in Brussels did agree that Israel was guilty of the lesser crime of ‘Incitement to Genocide’ as set forth in Article 3(c) of the Genocide Convention.  It also agreed that the additional treaty duty to prevent genocide had been definitely violated by Israeli behavior during Protective Edge…

Amnesty International: Whitewashing Another Massacre by Paul de Rooij

It is this history that must serve as the foundation of any report that attempts to describe both the intent of the participating parties and the relative consequences… To determine the reasons behind Israeli actions, one only has to read what their Dr. Strangeloves say – it is no secret. The aim is to create miserable conditions to drive the Palestinians off their land, warehouse the population in an open air prison called Gaza, and to disproportionately repress any Palestinian resistance. Israelis have to “kill and kill and kill, all day”. Such pathological reasoning put Israeli actions into perspective; they are major crimes, possibly genocidal. Recognition of such crimes has some consequences…

Amnesty however refuses to acknowledge the serious nature of Israeli crimes, by using an intellectually bankrupt subterfuge; it insists that as a rights-based organization it cannot refer to historical context – doing so would be considered “political” in its warped jargon.
