Various groups protest at Luskin center as UC Regents meeting takes place on Daily Bruin

Protesters from various campus groups demonstrated in front of a meeting of the governing board of the University of California on Wednesday. The UC Board of Regents is meeting at the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center this week to discuss issues such as nonresident tuition increases and the University’s financial operations.

…Mariam Alkhalili, a third-year political science and international affairs student at UC Riverside, said the UC is funding violations of Palestinian human rights by investing in some companies that do business in Israel. “Our tuition dollars should not be used to fund an occupation,” she said. “(There) are victims of genocide; innocent people are getting killed every day.”

GOLDSTEIN: On Jerusalem Scheer’s right, Trudeau’s wrong by Lorrie Goldstein

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

In his article on the Toronto Sun, supporting Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Lorrie Goldstein charges Israel with genocide against the indigenous Palestinian people, using colonialism and genocide against the indigenous peoples of Canada as justification:

Just as Israel has been condemned by the United Nations for inhumane treatment of the Palestinians, so Canada has been condemned by the UN for inhumane treatment of Canada’s First Nations.

Just as Israel has been accused of ethnic cleansing and cultural genocide of the Palestinians, so Canada has been accused of ethnic cleansing and cultural genocide of its First Nations through its residential school policy and other historic wrongs.

Just as Israel has been criticized for confining the Palestinians to small, barren pockets of land through the incursion of settlers, so Canada has been criticized for confining its First Nations to small, barren pockets of land through the incursion of settlers.

And yet Canada’s right to call Ottawa its capital is unchallenged, while Israel’s right to call Jerusalem its capital is rejected by the international community, with the recent exception of the U.S. under President Donald Trump.

Such is the double standard which Israel constantly faces.

Genocide? As Gaza dries out, Israel turns off fresh water spigot by Darius Shahtahmasebi

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Rather than heeding the warnings from the UN to open up Gaza’s blockade and allow vital aid, what we have witnessed over the course of the last decade is a periodic all-out Israeli assault on Gaza’s vital infrastructure… Israeli policies indeed border on a systematic genocide that will, if unchecked, completely erode the Gaza Strip to nothingness in just a few short years.

YFS demands York divest and effect free education on Excalibur

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

On February 1, the York Federation of Students (YFS) assembled a crowd of about 150 students in Vari Hall—filling its three floors and overrunning the then-ongoing poster sale—for “Drop Fees, Not Bombs,” a rally to demonstrate student support for York to divest from all arms manufacturers and to implement free tuition.

YFS President Rawan Habib said: “The reason many of us are here today is because of a violent process of commonization of genocide, and we can’t forget that.”

Moe Alqasem from Students Against Israeli Apartheid—one of five founding organizations of the YU Divest campaign—emphasized the struggle of Palestinian victims, particularly civilians killed by “Israel when it goes into Gaza,” with weapons provided by the five global arms manufacturers York accepts investments from: Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems, Textron, and Amphenol.

UN: Electricity crisis brings Gaza to verge of disaster on United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

This is another one of those rare occasions when we archive a statement that doesn’t explicitly include the word genocide. We can only guess at the reasoning behind UN OCHA’s decision to use evocative words rather than legal terminology to describe the situation in Gaza, but we archive this statement because it marks another stage of deterioration in what we analyse to be Israel’s genocide against the indigenous Palestinian people.

We hope to see, in the very near future, statements from the United Nations that are less that of damage control, and more of a strategical outline for achieving accountability, and with that, an end to crimes on a mass scale.

Emergency fuel for critical facilities in Gaza will become exhausted within the next ten days, the United Nations warned today, noting an urgent need for donor support to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe driven by the energy crisis… Currently at risk are emergency and diagnostic services, like MRIs, CT and x-rays, intensive care units and operating theatres in 13 public hospitals; some 55 sewage pools; 48 desalination plants; and solid waste collection capacity… “Hospitals have already begun to close. Without funding, more service providers will be forced to suspend operations over the coming weeks, and the situation will deteriorate dramatically, with potential impacts on the entire population. We cannot allow this to happen.”

Israel-Palestine: a settler colonialism case by Fábio Lopes Paulos

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Israel can be described as a ‘colonial settler-state’ (Rodinson 1973) that has been implementing a ‘logic of elimination’ since the first Jewish settlement in 1967 (Wolfe 2006, 387; Gordon 2008, 28). For Wolfe, genocide is not far from the settler-colonialism debate (2006, 387). However, he uses the term logic of elimination to explain settler-colonialism and places the access to territory as the primary motive for elimination (Wolfe 2006, 387, 402). We can see this logic in the Israel-Palestine case. The illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories is meant to expel the native society and replace it by the colonial society…

Israel’s sports minister posts video with genocidal chants by fans on +972 Magazine

Please TAKE ACTION RIGHT NOW and send your letter to the UN Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor.

Israeli Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev on Monday attended a soccer game between Beitar Jerusalem, a team known for its and its fans’ anti-Arab racism, and Bnei Sakhnin, an Arab squad from northern Israel. At the end of a short message encouraging and praising a sportsmanlike atmosphere at the game, the fans gathered around her break out into chants of “burn down your village” (alternatively translated as “May your village be burned”). She continues smiling and says nothing.

One must ask why a senior government minister who is no stranger to social media decided not to edit out the final seconds of the video. It would be hard to blame her for the reactions of people around her, some of whom clearly were looking to provoke on camera. But the decision to publish genocidal chants is troubling.
